Marraige; Where is the Value?

Come one, come all. Talk about anything not league or video game football related here.

One thing, Riccio might be angling at the monogamy and freedom thing, which I agree with. However, my main point of contention was more economic and political. It seems that the difference between having a girlfriend for 40 years is NO different than a wife of 40 years.

George, I guess it takes a Husker to understand things ... Lincoln is a great financial city. :) That's what I wanted to know from the onset and I appreciate it. Thank you. I didn't start this thread to fight, seriously. Just curious. Remember, I am a bar man and I see the great and the horrible. I never see the "merely" good, so it keeps me thinking.

You're kidding, right? The one who has done nothing but ask questions is the one that can't be reasoned with?

ugh.

I wish I were ignoramuses like you ... seems so much more pleasant that way.
Im not knocking the curiosity, but where you get some of these concepts is beyond me. Like I said before though, I actually AGREE WITH YOU :D
It might have a lot to do with jail. Relatively, I spent a "lot" of time there; combined five or six months and another four years in and out of the corrections jurisdiction in other forms. You meet the BIGGEST FUCKING MORONS there but each one has one moment where they say something that makes perfect sense. And, because they are morons with no regard, it resonates; "Wow, that actually makes sense!". The film "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest" is a good example. They get it, but, yeah, not so much ... but every so, they get it.

It is especially true when they question social mores - usually governmental - and being as young as I was, it set a groundwork. Yeah, most of this shit makes sense, but some of it doesn't. And it got me into exploring. After coming out, I found barwork to be my best avenue before I eventually got back into a career. In the bar, you meet more of these people (minus the batshit insanity) and you start wondering "what else am I missing? what other things have I taken for granted that I should question?"

The internet only compounds it. So, I start questioning everything. I might have been all over the place in the past few paragraphs, but can you appreciate the backdrop or am I still just being that guy who can't take a spade for a spade until you shove it in his face?

I think the advantage is just being confident that your girlfriend/wife can't pick up and leave you at a moment's notice...and that there are actual consequences if they do (mainly the hassle). The benefit, minus all other morality, if we're just talking secular, is more like insurance.

In the history of mankind, marriage has been just as much of a business agreement as a statement of love or commitment. I think a lot of that still applies. It's good business, esp. if you're confident that you want to spend your life committed to someone.
