so he is a recovering alcoholic,drug abuser, and heart felt "story". I think the dude is human and a young dude that still has the party in him. Who knows what happened after they left the bar though. He told the team right after but he didn't tell his wife.

People are feelng duped by his heart felt recovery and story and now this. Pfffffffffff.

unless you have its pretty hard to understand why people are feeling like that. you help someone thur their lowest moments in life, help them get better only to see them do something like this. it sucks and it hurts.

i think he's a fuck up and hope he can get better, but if i was in his circle i'd walk away.

being a superstar doesn't allow you to betray people who stand by you. you don't take a second chance and throw it down the toilet.

kdog, at what point do you stop then? i've been in the situation where i've given EVERYTHING i had (money, time, prayers, emotions) only to have the person make selfish decisions because they were weak in a moment that they needed to make a choice between right and wrong. I continued to stick by them only to continue to be betrayed. Lost tens of thousands of dollars and had my faith in people virtually crushed. I've spoke with many specialists and such about this and they all said that you have to draw a line in the sand at some point. it doesn't make me a bad friend/person cause i walked away... some people like the feeling of knowing they will be looked after and only until they reach that point where NOBODY is there for them do they realize what they have become.

i feel awful for the support system of Hamilton, its heartbreaking.

In my opinion its partially the shift in culture and just how different things are now between our generation and our parents. Not that they didnt, because thats bullshit this has been around since the first time alcohol was introduced to society. If my parents knew how much alcohol i consumed from 17-25 I would of been easily "classified" as an alcoholic. However, I never let it affect my work or any responsibilities i would have, it was clearly a social thing. It was a social thing that I went out 5-6 nights a week too. LOL

Just understand its a disease and that he will never be cured of it. He has changed alot in his life. but that dependency in the back of his head is one thing he will never be able to change.

Maybe Im being naive, but he may be able to limit it to drinking and going out. Doesnt mean he will be back on the hard drugs and develop a problem again.

It's possible, but very hard. I know one guy that use to keep a set number of raffle tickets in his pocket when he went out. Every drink he had, he threw one away. When he was out of tickets, he stopped drinking alcohol and went to tonic and cranberry, no booze with a lime to keep up appearances.

My own case, when I owned a bar, I drank every night, a lot every night, especially when I lived upstairs from it. I could not be in the bar without drinking, wether it was I wanted to party with the people or cope with the people there. I have been out of the bar business a little over a year and I can count how many times I have drank on one hand. (I don't count a beer out at dinner with the family drinking). But for me, it's a case of if it's not around, I won't have it. But if it's there, I will prolly be drinking. So I guess I am not an alcoholic in the terms of my body craves alcohol or else I get the jitters, but I am a binge drinker with low will power I guess. Not sure of the clinical term, if any.

He's a recovering addict. If pics come out from this one instance, I'm fairly confident, we can be sure he's been drinking and living it up at the bars a LOT more than that 1 time.


All that being said, he is a baseball player, so why should we care about what he does in his personal life?

Not that I cared much about the guy before, but this doesn't change my stance on him one bit. I "follow" Josh Hamilton the baseball player. Don't care about all that off the field stuff.

Rehab the way it is today is horrible. I had to go through that shit for 18 months and it is sickening the way they treat and speak to the addicts. They baby them, even when they are getting "tough" on them - and even then, they call it "tough love." Then they do nothing but repeat empty mantras. "One day at a time." and "Keep on coming."

There is no fucking recovery and it is a constant struggle because of it. And, I believe, that it becomes ironic that the sickness they have no longer is the substance, but the recovery itself. While i was stuck in the fucking rehab program, I'd see guys leave and come back, leave and come back. and leave and come back. Fine. However, what wasn't fine was how their demeanor never changed. It was like they were happy (or, more appropriately, comfortable) that they returned. Masochistic, really.

Aside from the obvious financial benefits the churches receive from hosting programs like this, it is also why I firmly believe religion is a major theme in drug rehab. It is your out card. Relapsed? HE has me on a path and I shall put my faith in him. I used to fight with these nutjobs all the time over this shit. They'd accuse me of being stubborn when I used to tell them to stop with the god shit and look to yourself for answers, not god. They won't have it.

Because they don't have answers. Only the rehab instructor, other addicts, and god do. And it fucking disgusted me. I pitied these people; not because of their drug addiction but because of their insistence that the group was the only way to go. No self-reflection.

Even I had to quickly learn how to play the game. I was only supposed to be there for 12 months. It took me 18 and that was only after a swift about-face with my attitude. I was forced by the court to sit in "group" with these hardcore junkies and crackheads. I argued at first. Then I stopped. I had to make up terrible stories of degradation because of my "drug use" in order to pass the course and not get launched back in jail just to satisfy probation

Waking up feeling like shit and realizing you slept with the fat girl is apparently not considered degrading enough. I had to come up with real "consequences" for my drinking. I invented tales of thefts and lies in order to use "drugs"; "drugs" because I rapidly learned that you never refer to alcohol as "beer", "liqour", or "booze" when you're in "group". It's always "drugs", so that you're not seen as minimizing and rationalizing your "drug use".

Charming, eh? Land of the free? Nope. Land of the thought-crime.

And that is why these people will never be saved. They will live in anguish for their whole lives. And, in the meantime, we get to hear how god and "group" and strength and will saved them and that, one day, you will see the light.

I can agree with both sides. Definitely agree with Dave that you have to draw a line and at some point, you have to take a stand if you're in his inner circle.


In no way would I defend the dude, but hearing about his history and story from a few years ago, I can definitely understand how he could lapse and be doing things like this, right or wrong.

oh i agree with that 100%.

all of my comments were directed towards his support system. as a human who has been thru something similar i do care about that stuff.
