Re: Stadia by Google
I just read up on it, cool idea.
Here are the games available:
https://store.google.com/product/stadia_games
No console needed. It uses a Stadia controller and connects to a computer, tablet, etc. using Chrome or to a TV using a ChromeCast.
Google set up their data center as the console.
Graphics look great.
Here is a video with more information:
https://store.google.com/product/stadia ... rs_edition
No downloading of games, they are all available instantly from the Google servers.
And this pic is the quality of gameplay video you get based on your internet speeds.

14:40 in, it shows Tom Clancy's Division 2, which looks great to me.
The Stadia is being released in November.
Stadia Pro Access - $9.99 per month
4K, HDR, 60 frames per second with 5.1 surround sound
Plus some free content each month. (No clue what that means right now)
To buy the "System" Founders edition - $129
It comes with: Chromecast Ultra, limited edition, Night Blue Stadia Controller and 3 months of Stadia included and a 3 month buddy pass for a friend to have Stadia Access, but they need to buy the controller on their own.
Stadia Controller - $69.
The Founders edition will include the Destiny 2 game for free.
If you don't want the Founders edition, buy the Stadia Base which is $69.99 for a controller, then $9.99 per month.

Re: Stadia by Google
Would be awesome if developers like EA would allow cross platform play in their games.
So when PS5 comes out, I wouldn't have to spend $500 on the system and $80 on Madden 2021.
I would be able to use my existing controller I bought that works on the Switch, Android and a pc and just buy Madden 2021 on Stadia

Re: Stadia by Google
I definitely think it is awesome of companies like Steam and Stadia to help push the online gaming format forward.
I would love to spend say $10 per month and play my games online rather than have to fork out $500 for a PS5.
That is just over 4 years at $10 per month to equal the cost of their new console.

But I'm on Xbox and Riccio PS4, so we're not golfing together.
Back in the day, we did have a league, playing rounds together with the mic, and keeping track of the standings and what not. It was pretty fun.

That was amazing.
I remember running it and updating spreadsheets on the honor system of a guys round in Tiger, updating the leaderboard, creating trophies on tour.
Man that was awesome.

Re: Stadia by Google
A handful of the guys from Ireland that I play Pro Clubs with on FIFA are on Golf Club quite a bit, so I'm guessing it's a quality game. Just don't know if I could get into myself
Re: Stadia by Google
It’s my favorite game by quite a bit and with the ability to put it down whenever it makes it even better with dad life responsibilities

Re: Stadia by Google
It's the only game I've played for a couple of months now.
Riccio and I are opposites though. He only plays online, I only playo offline.
Riccio used an online site that has a cool league setup with tournaments. My issue though is that so many dudes shoot in the 50s every tourney, and I immediately lose interest as a result.
I just do the offline PGA Tour mode.

Re: Stadia by Google
Resurrecting an old thread just to mention that I've met Shannon Studstill several times through people my wife is friend's with.
She was the former head and co-founder of Sony's Santa Monica Studios - worked many of the God of War games including executive producing the reboot from 2018. She was then poached by Google to lead the Stadia effort in LA.
Very interesting person to talk to - the vision and ideas that people in those positions have is incredibly impressive.
Also, probably the most famous/wealthy person I've met in LA, but totally normal in every way.

Re: Stadia by Google
And it basically lasted 3 years and it is going away here in a few days.
Definitely was an interesting concept, but never panned out for them.
But that is the same old story with Google. They try tons of things that they never stick with or doesn't pan out for them.
I definitely give them an A for trying all the things that they do.
Microsoft is another company that tries a lot and a lot of things don't make it.
I believe both have websites where when things don't pan out, some of it, they let it become open source.

I think she could have hung around with Sony (SMS) longer, but I believe the Google offer for the Stadia position was quite lucrative. And, it sounded like it was a minimum number of years regardless of how Stadia did, so she's either likely still being paid or was offered a big severance when the ship went down.
She lives in a giant house in Palos Verdes, so definitely doing alright!

Yeah, I got you man. I don't think people like her stick around after they feel like they've done all they can somewhere. Was on top of the world after the 2019 GoW game - but people with her personality type need to continue to challenge themselves.
