How often did people die in Cali prior to Covid? Put things into perspective.
I am asking legitimately, not trying to be a dick.

2 more weeks working from home on quarantine!
I've been thinking about how much my life has changed in the last year. My wife went back to work full-time in August, after taking 2 years off to be with our kids while they were going through pre-school. She had previously worked from home, so this part is normal. When COVID hit, my company was in the middle of a major purchase, which was delayed as we adapted to the changing environment. Until late March, I was driving an hour 1 way, to Cincinnati and working from home about once every 2 weeks. When the world went nuts in late March, I stared working from home full-time. When the company transitioned and as people started going back into offices, I found out that my position was going to be permanent work from home. (Ultimately, it was a waste of time for me to drive to an office that is an hour away, and be distracted by business needs for an area that I previously oversaw... my new role only has a minimal connection to the prior company)
I only leave my house for sports and occasionally the store, which we often use a pickup service. I went from putting 400 miles per week on my truck to maybe 40, unless we're traveling for a big event. It's kind of crazy that I went from spending 90% of my time awake, outside of my house, to 80%-90% inside of it.
I also think about how much easier a lot of things are now, including when my kids were playing sports this summer. At one point, the girls were both playing soccer, cheer, taking piano lessons (virtually) and training gymnastics for 9hrs per week. Meanwhile, I was putting MORE hours working than I did last year and still managing to be at all of those events/practices. The work/life balance potential is incredible. Though there were moments where it was dangerously unhealthy (numerous days where I'd log on to work at 7a, forget to eat anything, work until 6p, take the kids to practice/training, eat, kids down for bed, then work until well after midnight). Ultimately, in the field that I work in, it's such a huge win for the company and also a big win for me as well. I'm curious to see what happens if/when I move on. I feel like this flexibility is worth so much when it comes time to evaluate future options.

COVID numbers are going to go up. NY may have had 50% more deaths in nursing homes. But, if you listen to Cuomo....he did an excellent job during the pandemic

Re: COVID-19
So if I understand the vaccine correctly, it only keeps the symptoms from getting to adverse for the person. It doesn't prevent you from catching it or transmitting it. So if 100% of the population gets the vaccine it still doesn't go away. When do we get away from crushing small business and get rid of masks?

Did the flu go away because we have the flu vaccine?GeorgesGoons wrote: ↑Tue Feb 09, 2021 1:56 am So if I understand the vaccine correctly, it only keeps the symptoms from getting to adverse for the person. Why would you expect this to go away?
This is not like Polio where the vaccine makes it go away.
The vaccine helps your body build an immunity to it so that if/when you do get it, it will be much more mild, like the flu.
Unfortunately, Covid is here to stay, but it has been around for a very long time already, just not these particular strains.
The hope is that enough people get the vaccine so that it weakens the effectiveness of the virus so that it becomes like the common cold and then things can be back to "normal".

I don't expect it to go away. And I don't expect more than 60% of adults to get the vaccine in the next couple of years.The_Niddler wrote: ↑Tue Feb 09, 2021 2:25 amDid the flu go away because we have the flu vaccine?GeorgesGoons wrote: ↑Tue Feb 09, 2021 1:56 am So if I understand the vaccine correctly, it only keeps the symptoms from getting to adverse for the person. So my question remains, when do we get away from masks mandates, limiting occupancy, and just getting back to normalcy. Is it a year, 2 years, 10 years?
