Coming up with excuses for giving the same speech years apart is just odd. We should demand better from these people, not come up with excuses for all of their shortcomings.
Accountability begins and ends with campaign finance reform.
Uhhhmmmmm, what's going on here? This is something I actually agree with.

I think each candidate gets the same amount of money to campaign with, that might actually give a 3rd party an equal chance

Supposedly Day 1 got 6x the ratings that Day 1 of the DNC got, though I just saw that in passing.

That's just 1 data point from C-SPAN. Unlikely to be that kind of gap. I saw something like 28% to 40% down for the major networks for the DNC 2020 vs 2016. 1st night RNC will come out later today sometime.

Maybe, but we're doing almost literally the same thing we did in 2016 when we thought Trump had no chance and made every little excuse in the book why he had no chance.

Next thing you know, we got a buffoon for a President.

Also Trump went to the blue belt (or rust belt if that’s what it’s called) where Clinton spent little time and campaigned his ass off.

He may win the rust belt again with the manufacturing jobs that were brought back. People won't forget they still got a job under this president in that area

Both Democratic and republican down about 30% from last year. 19 million vs 17 million TV viewers with the slight edge on night one going the Dems way.

From the articles I've seen the rust belt has only seen a small increase in manufacturing jobs and that was before all the Rona. The significant increases in manufacturing have come in states west of the Mississippi. Why that is I dunno lol

But to completely write him off in those states is exactly why he won in 2016. The left (and right) thinks certain states are automatic, 2016 showed that was not the case

footballkelly31 wrote: Wed Aug 26, 2020 9:30 am On a lighter note any one read about Kim Klacik....I haven't read enough on her but her message and principles seem like they can appeal to both sides of the isle. I hope to see more voices like this gain traction.
Her video was good, but it could have been a typical edgy hype video made by anyone without a political background. What she didn't do in the video was actually discuss policy or a way that she's going to solve the problem.

Furthermore, she's not the first to try this and certainly won't be the last. But in the end, it's a huge uphill battle. It's great that every American has the ability to vote and everyone can vote based on what they feel is most valuable. So herein lies a problem... single/minimal issue voters will continue to vote for things that best serve them as an individual. This is where identity politics gets it's surge. Find identity based issues that drive new voters to the polls to support their self-interest, then collect the support as they vote within the party that supports their specific interest, other policies be damned.

It's always going to be an uphill battle for a republican politician in a diverse community. Their platform is generally "don't spend a lot of money on social services, work hard to get what you want and everyone is equal." That's contrasted against "we've got a government program to help your identity/situation, we'll give your identity this advantage to makeup for something, and you are (your vote!) is special to us." I get that a self-serving voter would jump all over that.

None of this is inherently 'wrong,' but it's really hard to undo a lot of it when it happens.

Even as a mostly right side voter, I love the allure of my college debt disappearing. I absolutely believe we have to revamp our educational system Pre-K through college (especially college). Even the bickering about another round of checks from the government is there... the left is pushing to give more money, the right trying to hold it up. So yeah, if I'm low-mid income, buried in debt, I'm all over that win-now situation. Andrew Yang... UBI, sure, free money, I'm in. Then my common sense side kicks in... nothing that the government provides is free. Someone, somewhere, is paying for it. It may not be today, but it's going to be paid for.

"You need to be American and outraged. How dare the Republicans talk about fear. We're the ones that need to be scared. We're the ones having to talk to every Black child. What white father has to give his son a talk about being careful if you get pulled over?"
Stealing this from the other thread and dragging it back here too...

This last part goes with my previous post. 1st of all, I will absolutely have a talk with my white daughters about what to do when they get pulled over. Why? Because not following directions is the biggest issue.

Second, if "you're the ones having to talk to every Black child," then you're obviously failing at getting the message across or you're delivering the wrong message. In every case, there is resistance or at a minimum non-compliance.

Pardon my break from my more typical Libertarian ideas... but this is a place where I disagree. Yes, as citizens, we have the right not to comply with a lawful order. But I'm going to go with my common sense and say that unless I'm being told to do something that is absolutely ludicrous, I'm just going to go ahead and follow the directions of the person(s) that have a gun on their hip and let them put me into the car. I'll live today and fight my battle in court. I believe someone else said it here recently... I've yet to see a video of someone being shot while they were fully complying with what the officer(s) said. (I have seen a few crazy videos where the officers were giving conflicting directions and the poor guy was having a helluva time trying to figure out what to do)

How about a link to narrow it down multiple shooting and more then a few vids floating around.

The vid I saw the guy tripped running down the street after he had already opened fire on someone. Reports are he was under 18 and it was illegal for him to be there here with the gun he had to begin with.
