Its easy to verify if your export went through or not with Slack / S+. And nothing you did argues against the point I'm trying to make. You're simply stating that if you forget or cant for whatever reason (work, sick, emergency etc.) you should lose your players. Why?
Because you neglected your team, that's why. If you are waiting till the last minute to do something then that's on the owner. I will plunder any team that fails to do their job, as will most of the owners here. And I will not lose an ounce of sleep over it, it's a game. But it is funny to see the whining here after Rule 5, it is actually my favorite sim of the season.

Its just common human decency. Would you like it if it happened to you?
It's happened when I was in Jordan and came up on a trip from our site and I signed a FA and didn't get him protected when he was signed the day after I left and I wasn't too happy about it....but I didn't quit the league over it.

Reading through a lot of this Rule 5 stuff just makes me laugh, every season. Some of the posts seem to be making the argument that we should now check to see if someone else exported the day before the Rule 5 draft before we have the audacity to put their players on our list.
Check the Rule 5 Draft Pool screen. Is the player listed there? Then he's eligible to be drafted, even if you or others don't think he's ready.

What he said.
Is it bad I look to see who didn't export and look at their prospects?

I'm done arguing with a person who has the same amount of brain cells as the shit my dog took this morning. Not sure why I expected anything different from a Trump supporter.
Personally, I agree with Neurotic that if a team did not export, as a commish, it is the right thing to do to not let a team get decimated.
With that said, as a non-commish in this league, I do not look to see if a team exported. I get in the game, I look at the Rule 5 draft pool and I put together my list. It is not my responsibility to check to see if a team exported. I create my list and if I get any of them, yeah, if not, no biggie.
To Heinz, I usually agree with you, but not in this argument, sorry. If you are a rebuilding team, like I am, I am going to take as many Rule 5 guys as I can, because there is a chance they will work out better than the shit I have on my active roster now.
So I will take a chance on these types of guys 100 out of 100 times.
If I was a team currently in the playoff hunt, I would, most likely, not be looking for a guy at 22 that is Rule 5 eligible.
But in my team's current state, sorry, I am going after as many as I can get.
I guess to each their own - but even rebuilding teams should have a better use for those roster spots than nearly-sure-to-crater middling specs
and fwiw, I don't actually "care" - it's just annoying because I find it so anti-productive, and no one took one of these types from me this Rule 5 - it's not a sour grapes situation
When you don't have money for free agents, your current ML squad is pretty shitty, why not take a chance? There is no negative for my team to take them and there is a chance they develop nicely, so why not?
Instead, I will leave them on a competitor who must have a damn good team if they have players that have good potential and are not on their 40 man?
Sorry, again, I am taking them.
Would you like it if it happened to you? No. Does it take long to fix or is in any way an advantage to you? No
it has happened to me, several times. I've cultivated a reputation for 'forgetting' to export. I bet in my time in the league its happened 10 or so times to me....it certainly stinks and I whine about it a bit but at the end of the day its my fault.
if people are interested in 'your' approach, I say we just cancel the rule 5 draft all together
i dont know you well at all, so please dont take offense, I am just not convinced of your argument just yet.....that said I don't care either way lol

kslaze, I do have some empathy for your SP being drafted while on the DL, same happened to me many seasons ago. You didn't come on here and whine about it though, just pointed out you didn't know and thought it was stupid. I'll give him back, however, I'm not paying his salary for the season. I've posted a trade for cash to cover his salary this season and he's yours again once you agree
I appreciate it, but you keep him. It was my error and I would probably ruin him anyhow like every prospect on my team. Just another learning lesson. Thank you for the offer though, I appreciate it.

Canceling is very different than protecting for people who didn’t export. If you wanna go down the take your ball and go home road, then spin it however you want.
So let me get this straight. Because someone didn’t export, our interim simmer/commissioner took it upon himself without direction to protect guys? Or was the protecting done because of requests of owners that were having issues. If it was the former rather than the latter, that’s bullshit. Carry on...

I believe some owners asked to get guys protected and the interim simmer took it upon himself to protect guys for owners that didn't reach out. That is how I understand it.....and yes, it is bullshit

But no, you're right, I "took it upon myself". Sorry you couldnt take advantage of people who were having issues with their exports / the server. I bet your #2 pick having trash team could have used one of those stud prospects.

This is on billy too. But you BOTH took it upon yourselves to protect players from teams that didn't reach out.
Billy spoke with both Jay and Plasma about their export / protection issues. Those were the only two teams that were interceded for. I'm not even sure what you're rambling about at this point.
So what you are saying is this whole days conversation could have been circumvented by saying it was those teams that reached out from the beginning. And obviously I wasn't the only one confused as Coug asked the same thing this evening
