If I have never had to do it before nor taken someone from someone’s DL, how would I know I had to protect him? Seems like a dumb rule to take injured players on the DL. But then again I lost players a few years ago even when they were protected but 21 “somehow had some glitches” and was told oh well. So basically it’s just the Wild West with this game.

There is a filter in 21 that shows you all the Rule 5 eligible players. I would suggest using this in the future.

Take it how you will. But if an owner isn't active with his team then screw them.

If an owner isn't active, he shouldn't be in the league. Plundering his team because he "forgot" to protect for rule 5 is ridiculous. It hurts the league as a whole. Someone shouldn't be punished for missing one export (I dont give a shit if you can protect in the sims leading up to that, you shouldn't have to). I'm not talking about people who intentionally leave players off or export and "forget" to protect. If someone doesn't export, there should at least be a minimal attempt at looking over his players. Its ridiculously easy to do this release. Its better for the league as a whole that those players stay on their teams. You getting a stud prospect because someone had to work late and didn't have time is ridiculous.

Agree with me or don't, no skin off my back. But it speaks loudly to your selfishness if you're fine with plundering someones team because they missed an export.

If an owner is waiting till the day of Rule 5 to protect players and then their export "doesn't go thru" or whatever else excuse that comes up then that's on them. You can protect players before that day and if you don't then oh well. Call it selfish or whatever, but I think it's selfish to think you should keep those players because they "forgot" to export.

I feel for the two guys that lost their pitchers. I think owners should know SPs like that were not intentionally left unprotected and a little bit of grace should be shown. But that's not the world we live, SO, I hope Dave Brown dies in the next sim.
On the flip side know the rules and get your guys protected. Soon as Billy announces Rule 5 is upcoming I get my all guys protected.

People who reached out I have zero issue with. But to protect guys because owners failed to do their jobs then it shouldn't have happened

Reading through a lot of this Rule 5 stuff just makes me laugh, every season. Some of the posts seem to be making the argument that we should now check to see if someone else exported the day before the Rule 5 draft before we have the audacity to put their players on our list.

Check the Rule 5 Draft Pool screen. Is the player listed there? Then he's eligible to be drafted, even if you or others don't think he's ready.

kslaze, I do have some empathy for your SP being drafted while on the DL, same happened to me many seasons ago. You didn't come on here and whine about it though, just pointed out you didn't know and thought it was stupid. I'll give him back, however, I'm not paying his salary for the season. I've posted a trade for cash to cover his salary this season and he's yours again once you agree

Its easy to verify if your export went through or not with Slack / S+. And nothing you did argues against the point I'm trying to make. You're simply stating that if you forget or cant for whatever reason (work, sick, emergency etc.) you should lose your players. Why? Nobody should be forced to protect your players prior to the sim they need to be protected on. There are complications of protecting them early, especially since we have rounds of FA before Rule 5 starts.

For a multitude for reasons. You could potentially decimate a farm system if you have a team that has a number of prospects R5 eligible in the same year. Regardless of anything else (whether or not you think the team deserves it), you're potentially setting that team back 4-5+ years. Also, for example: I exported every sim last season. Lets say something comes up last night and I'm unable to export for whatever reason. You really think someone should be punished for that? Regardless of whether or not I had time to protect before that (which side note, imo you shouldnt _have_ to). Personally that would greatly diminish my interest. I've seen it happen to other owners (good owners who end up leaving because of it). I've had it happen to me when I first joined this league (Billy got one of my prospects - he offered to send him back and I declined because ultimately I was at fault).

Its just common human decency. Would you like it if it happened to you? No. Does it take long to fix or is in any way an advantage to you? No, your players get protected just like everyone else (and like was shown today, you may potentially have some missed). Its not hard to find the stars and put them on the 40 man. I'm not saying police the pool and protect anyone you think should be. If someone exports, then you assume they protected. Again, plundering a team because the owner missed one export is not what this is for.

HOWEVER I for one like that McBride contract quite a bit. $19M for a gold glove 1B who hits 40-50 dongs and plays EVERY day. And is in the dead center of his prime. I like it quite a bit actually.
