2073 Season Thread.... Ted Talk: How to Win a Title
Re: 2073 Season Thread.... Ted Talk: How to Win a Title
The only fun thing about coaches is trying to sign former players. My World Series winning coach was also my catcher (Jeff Stroud). That’s about the only coach in my history of coaches I’ll remember. And I’m grooming a former player (forget now, ironically) as a minor league coach.

This is the worst excuse for why you should / shouldnt do something. None of the teams or players here are real. You're ok with a guy having 3 players on his minor league team, but gotta have coaches because realism!GeorgesGoons wrote: ↑Fri Jun 19, 2020 2:51 pm Why not?
I think we should have coaches at all levels, just more realistic

You still didn't answer the question to why get rid of them. We are still in the off season, create a poll in the winter meetings thread and I'll go with whatever the league decides. But my vote is to keep themNeurotic wrote: ↑Fri Jun 19, 2020 4:38 pmThis is the worst excuse for why you should / shouldnt do something. None of the teams or players here are real. Because there is no definitive answer on their value. Do they add anything to the game other than a monetary cost? Does some people using them vs not cause negative affects? IMO, there is more upside to dropping them vs keeping them. Removing them reduces them uncontrollable randomness and frees up money to be used elsewhere.
Re: 2073 Season Thread.... Ted Talk: How to Win a Title
Also, I knew of a few people that have fired their head coach because their star player(s) wouldnt resign with them because of their current coach. That doesnt seem like something you should have to worry about imo.

Re: 2073 Season Thread.... Ted Talk: How to Win a Title
A lot of my minor league guys are upset because there's no manager for their team. Would that happen to the ML guys as well or is there some switch/value that gets turned off if we completely remove coaches?
I know one of the things I look at when hiring coaches is their player development influence. How much of an impact does that make on the players? Will they get that development else where if the coaches are not there any more?

When I reached out to the devs and asked them about coaches, I forget their exact response, but it was something like, it is a negligible difference.Wasted Memory wrote: ↑Sat Jun 20, 2020 7:54 am A lot of my minor league guys are upset because there's no manager for their team. They said, if you think about it in real life, once players are at these levels, how much impact does a coach really have?
Players know how to play the game once they are at these levels in real life, so there is a very small impact that coaches have on players in the game.
That is not verbatim, but it is close to what their answer was to me.
Now, this was a few OOTP version ago, so who knows in 21.
It could be like their stupid new scouting system where I have to click buttons to tell my scout (Isn't his job to be a scout?) to scout his own organization.
But anyways, that is what they stated previously on coaches.
