Major Change to Draft Pool

Post by wdoupis »

Fellas, I have talked to a few guys who run other leagues as well as Dave from S+ who is an OOTP genius to try to figure out our draft issues. If you have not already looked, the next draft is even worse and the one after the same. I do not want to over react but they continue to trend down. I've talked to some leagues that are further along than ours and they said it is a common issue in leagues that get really deep and use feeder leagues. We have 8 green OSA guys in the next draft excluding relievers. That just won't work. Here is what I intend to do unless I get a really compelling reason not to from this thread.

I will get rid of our feeder leagues. This will eliminate that source of depleted talent and is our issue at the moment. It sounds extreme but for 95% of the league I could have made the change and nobody would have noticed. The only impact is that you wont be able to see the draft pool for the upcoming draft (and this draft only) until its generated. Once the draft pool is revealed, we'll be able to use the (new to OOTP21) in game system to generate current and future draft pools. I am really confident that less than 5 owners even look at it now before pool is revealed. I think this will fix our issue as other leagues that do not use feeder leagues have had absolutely normal drafts in 21 and we have already had 3 in the other league I am in and they have been normal to above average.

I intend to make a back up copy of the league and test this during rollover and make sure there are not any other consequences but I plan to do this.

I WANT TO STRESS THAT THIS HAS ZERO IMPACT ON LEAGUE FUNCTIONALITY OR THE MAIN NDL LEAGUE... This just changes how we feed our draft pools and change is needed.

This is not a poll but a league discussion. If your opinion is I do not want to change it just because I don't like change or we have always done it this way then please do not post in this thread. I want intelligent discussion so make sure I have covered all of our tracks and maybe there is something you guys think of that I have not.

There will still be HS and College players. Just right now we have created this USSL HS league and the NCAA leagues and it will erase those feeder leagues and use the in game HS and college leagues.

I'm lost lol.

Also, will this current draft pool be scrapped for a new one?

Sounds like we need a restart to clean this league up for multiple reasons.

Some I have beat to death so I wont bring up here. :)

Honestly, the only question that needs to be answered here.

Are we sure this will make the future draft classes better or we assuming it will? At this point, it can't get much worse so no reason to try it for 10 seasons to see how it goes and then discuss again in 2081?

It would change current pool but you won't see those changes until draft pool is revealed in mid-April

The game has HS and NCAA leagues that it creates players too and is the default way leagues operate. We created feeder leagues to where we create an NCAA and USSL (High School) so that you can see players years in advance. That is the only reason to use feeder leagues but it is not necessary and in our case I believe detrimental.

Like I said, 95% of the league would never have known I made the change but it is a big enough change that I wanted to discuss it first.

Yes. Basically what you're doing is removing the feeder leagues in favor of the new OOTP21 system. Deleting the feeder leagues you have now will clear the draft pool. Once the pool is revealed it will generate new players. It will also generate players for upcoming drafts, so you can still preview upcoming drafts. There will still be HS and college stats for players, you just wont be able to go and physically look at the teams (which, why would you?).

Something needs to be done. A bad draft here and there can happen but guys trying to rebuild have no shot with 3 or 4 drafts in a row being aweful.

This. It's either that, or everyone gets used to 40's and 50's being solid starters, which, isnt necessarily bad, but is certainly not what our folks are used to, so likely not a good idea.

With how 21 generates draft classes, feeder classes are useless. We get guys for 4 classes generated. Each year adds in some of the class, so about 85% of the class can be scouted ahead of time.

If I recall, this isn't exactly the first time this has happened. I believe Trendon retracted a couple international leagues because the same watered down drafts were happening. I think it is a good idea. I think green has become the new blue as teams are having a hard time getting players signed off FA and draft that have blue potential.
