at least the sources looked good

Spanish flu originated in.......well, you know where
After looking up a couple from after Crowes post, the 3 places I see for Spanish flu are France, Kansas, and North China. But, not Spain.

The earliest evidence of smallpox shows it coming from Egypt around 1100BC.

I wanted to watch the CNN/Fox news show about the Spanish flu, they mentioned something about it starting in France but since Spain was a neutral country they got the blame. Gonna have to find the documentary and watch it now

New York City's mayor says the city is less than a week away from not enough ventilators and saveable people will die because of it.

If only he knew this wasnt a big deal like people like George think..

This once again shows your ignorance or failure to comprehend what I wrote. I'll leave it up to everyone else to decide. But to reiterate, it's obviously not that big of a deal with the politicians till they decide to do something with people not having to pay some bills so they CAN stay home.

while I haven't read much of this thread in a day or 2, so i'm not sure how this is affecting everyone else . . . but it just hit home for me today.

We are all healthy, no one has it, but due to the outbreak and shutting down of business (specifically the YMCA that my wife has worked out for almost 20 years), my wife got placed on furlough effecting at the close of the day on Friday. The emailed stated that it would only last for about 30 days, but we are expecting it to be a permanent thing. She has worked her way up the ladder over the almost 20 years and has seen many upper management positions get cut to save a buck for the younger, less expensive employees.

so . . . needless to say, we are running a 2 household budget on a teacher's salary for the unforeseeable future . . .

Why the Democrats slowed down the bill:

• McConnell’s bill includes a $500,000,000,000.00 corporate slush fund for CEOs and the ultra rich to be given at the discretion of Treasury— while leaving workers, families and children out to dry.
• McConnell’s bill has weak stock buyback language that can be waived by the Treasury Secretary; executive compensation limits only last for two years; language on worker retention is weak and includes easy outs for companies; there are no assurances in the language that workers will benefit.
• The bill doesn't protect workers from being fired, even by companies that get millions of dollars.
• The bill provides little transparency of the lending done by Treasury (amount and to whom?).
• There are no specific provisions to protect from individuals from eviction, foreclosure or forbearance.
Other Major Problems:
• No money for state and local governments.
• No additional SNAP funds.
• No OSHA language to protect workers.
• No expanded emergency leave provisions.
• Only 3 months on Unemployment Insurance – this is an insufficient length given the scope of the crisis.
• Direct Payments are not available to the millions of people who did not file a return in 2018 or 2019.
• No money to help with the treatment of the uninsured.
• The bill does not provide adequate relief for the 44 million federal student loan borrowers.

https://news.yahoo.com/why-nobel-laurea ... 18391.html
Michael Levitt, a Nobel laureate and Stanford biophysicist, began analyzing the number of COVID-19 cases worldwide in January and correctly calculated that China would get through the worst of its coronavirus outbreak long before many health experts had predicted.

Now he foresees a similar outcome in the United States and the rest of the world.

While many epidemiologists are warning of months, or even years, of massive social disruption and millions of deaths, Levitt says the data simply don't support such a dire scenario — especially in areas where reasonable social distancing measures are in place.
Three weeks later, Levitt told the China Daily News that the virus' rate of growth had peaked. He predicted that the total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in China would end up around 80,000, with about 3,250 deaths.

This forecast turned out to be remarkably accurate: As of March 16, China had counted a total of 80,298 cases and 3,245 deaths — in a nation of nearly 1.4 billion people where roughly 10 million die every year. The number of newly diagnosed patients has dropped to around 25 a day, with no cases of community spread reported since Wednesday.
Now Levitt, who received the 2013 Nobel Prize in chemistry for developing complex models of chemical systems, is seeing similar turning points in other nations, even ones that did not instill the draconian isolation measures that China did.

He analyzed data from 78 countries that reported more than 50 new cases of COVID-19 every day and sees "signs of recovery" in many of them. He's not focusing on the total number of cases in a country, but on the number of new cases identified every day — and especially on the change in that number from one day to the next.
I've been spouting the % change on here for a while now.

Definitely need some of that. What are the details on what was unnecessarily included?

Hate using Fox news as a source, but it seems the least biased on what I've found, without digging into 1400 pages myself. (really, 1400? Give it a week and we'll reach ACA levels)

- Solar/wind tax credits
- Postal service debt relief
- Election law changes
- Carbon emissions testing requirements
- Money for Kennedy Center
- Immigration expansion
- Gov't phone support returned (Obamaphones)
- Community media (newspaper) retirement program
- Min wage increases

I can get with the idea of no stock buybacks and an argument over emergency leave protections, who is getting paid, and other financial issues related to the virus. But this is just mounds of f'n non-sense.

Its such a joke on both sides during a time like this.

It goes to show just how much they truly care about Joe American and put themselves and their pockets 1st every single time.

Effin joke.
