Not really.cougnix wrote:How cancerous is Chris Paul?

He asked out of New Orleans. Then he asked out of the Clippers. The Rockets are the first team to legit want to get rid of him.

Adrian Wojnarowski @wojespn 3 minutes ago
Houston hoped to find third-team destination preferable to Chris Paul, but ultimately leaves it OKC to execute next step once Presti confers w/ CP3 agent Leon Rose. Miami remains possibility for Paul (3 years, $124M) -- and OKC obviously has picks to incentivize deal, if needed.

Re: NBA Thread
Crazy!

Re: NBA Thread
Can’t imagine CP ever plays w OKC.
Seems more likely OKC sends a first (or maybe 2) and Paul to someone for bad shorter matching salary... aka Miami.
Gets them that big haul of picks still and cap flexibility after next year rather than sitting on bad cancerous contract w a guy who clearly won’t want to be there
I love CP so despite all the hate I want him in Miami if they can get a pick back and not have to give up any core young guys (that would be insanely dumb)
I would say I’d be more nervous about CP/Butler coexisting as alphas mentally than I would have been Westbrook and Butler

Re: NBA Thread
The Miami thing seems like the obvious play. I thought OKC was shipping Russ there originally.
Dragic and something will get it done.
I like the OKC plan, my only issue with it is the 2 big expiring contracts that they'd have (Danilo and Dragic) are also 2 of the top 10 FAs next year, because the FA pool is so thin. So it's not like they are going to go out there and flip them next season. Ultimately, they'd like sign a few 1yr deals, and hold out until '22. So this really is the looooong game that they are playing with both money and picks.
Now comes the real test... OKC fans have always had hype and stars since the team moved, how are they going to handle 2 years of getting stomped before this rebuild starts to really move forward?

i don't think it necessarily has to be the long game. the key is they have flexibility. as we saw this off season and just about every year... shit happens. guys want to build their own dynasty's, pair up with friends/etc. if they have clean books and picks to move when disgruntled players are looking for trades they can be there to swoop.
clearly doing that in OKC is a lot different than doing it LA or NY or something.
seems like the best game plan for these small mkt teams is to go aggressively after int'l players and hope they decide they don't mind playing in a small US mkt as it might not matter as much to them psychologically as a kid who grew up in US. the other option is to give high usage to high upside players that never got their full shots on other teams and their growth were stunted. Jaylen Brown types and hope for development and loyalty for giving them the shot.
they didn't have a choice with the PG situation so given all that i think they did a pretty nice job assuming they can get out of the CP contract. which even if they don't they take 1 year off the pain
