In fairness, the other half voted for an equally shitty candidate.

If Trump/Clinton doesn't break the cycle, the mindless process of most of the country voting for a D or an R won't stop any time soon, so I wouldn't expect much progress on the shitty political system for a looooong time.

This election will define the next 20+ years of having the same old shit we had before Trump. Career politicians that will do nothing for the average American and will bow to corporate interests.

people have been saying the same thing for as long as gov't has been around.

we just like to think 'its different now' because we're old enough to understand it and living in it.

nothing is new or different.

try rap from the 80's or 90's or rock from the 70's or, fuck it, read about the Plebeians in the ancient roman times. its always the same shit just in different forms.

we just like to believe we're special and important. access to information/places to leave our opinions and access to people who agree with us (creates confirmation bias') or disagree with us (creates anger) like we've never seen, so that part is a bit more extreme.

it does change... 50 years ago black people were being hung from trees. women were wearing hair nets and cooking dinner while the (Burp, grunt, strong) man was out working. homosexuals were hiding from society and living in shame. and whatever other social injustice you can think of.

things change, maybe not as quickly as we'd like to see them and maybe not as quickly as they should in a rational, normal world, but we've got humans who have lived a certain way for their entire lives. its hard to change past generations (some of them change but not all). as we progress, a larger % of the younger generations become more tolerant and understanding as long as they remain educated. then they have the same debates we're having about different subjects, then the next generation a larger % of them become more tolerant, etc etc etc.

we are in a unique period because we ALL have a voice thru social media. putting out opinions creates psychological issues that we have never had to discuss as a society. we put out a thought, algorithms pick up the subject matter and then feed us info they think we'll want to see which creates a confirmation bias then we live in a world where we get our opinions confirmed and our ego's boosted then as we enter the real world and hear people with different views we snap and can't handle our reality that we're living in.

humans are flawed, we are all different. if you're offended by someone with a different opinion than you, the problem is you. if you want to help, be positive and spread love and shine on your group of peers and encourage them to do the same.

Oh man...
Donald Trump has defended himself against criticism that his response to the natural disaster in Puerto Rico has been slow, saying that providing aid to the island isn’t as easy as helping out states in the contiguous US.

“It’s the most difficult job because it’s on the island, it’s on an island in the middle of the ocean,” Mr Trump said during a joint press conference with Spanish Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy. “It’s out in the ocean — you can’t just drive your trucks there from other states.”

“This isn't like Florida where we can go up the spine. This isn't like Texas where we go right down the middle and we distribute,“ Mr Trump said. ”This is a thing called the Atlantic Ocean. This is tough stuff.“
