it was a terrible fight. Nothing to it really. When Mayweather decided it was time, it was over.

id just stream them. Found a HD Stream for the boxing fight with relative ease and they were going out of their way to drop them.

The NFL can't walk away from it's broadcast contract with NBC, CBS, and Fox. It nets the league $3+ billion a year and gets them on prime television all day Sunday and then Sunday night, Monday night, and Thursday night. Being on broadcast means they reach everyone so they can saturate the market and make even more money off the recognition.
The networks require rotating Super Bowl rights because they can then sell the commercial time for huge amounts. If the league wanted to take away the super bowl rights to go to ppv, they'd probably lose the broadcast contracts altogether.
