I hate flying!

Original flight was delayed from 9 to 9:40 this morning. Then 20 minutes after arriving at airport it was delayed to 11:30. At 10 it was delayed until 1. Now it's cancelled and I don arrive in Richmond until midnight tonight, 11 1/2 hours later than I was supposed to.

Just to do it again on Sunday for my flight to Amman, Jordan

George is pissed about a flight delay, whereas most people would be happy to be delayed . Thank you for serving our country George! Stay safe!

Looks like it should provide some really nice outdoor space for you C.

I hope it isn't 9 guys a day for 10 days in your back-yard: that would come with a pretty hefty pricetag...

We just had our fireplace re-done in the house. That was just ~3 days for one guy and it cost a decent amount - though maybe the hourly contractor cost in Texas is lower than here (just like everything else).

I actually tore out the old fireplace brick and hearth with my father in law to save a day of additional cost on the job. 1900 lbs of brick, concrete, and mortar pulled out. Only cost me 6 hours of sweating on a Saturday and $50 at the waste management drop-off site.

I'll throw up some fireplace pics when it's all done (we have a mantle on order we have to wait for).

Ah home ownership life - spending time and money on building or remodeling things never seems to end.

Yea, i would love to see some pics of the fireplace as thats on our list as well. Ted and I IM a lot on our daily home renovations.

Recently did our master bathroom and that was a good 3-4 weekend process as finding time between kids and such was tough. Still would like to do more to it.

Yea they are loading up the backyard with daily 5-9 guys back there when I spy on my NEST cam. They formed the concrete and area and it will get inspected tomorrow and pour starts Friday for the stamped concrete.

We are also replacing the entire fence with cedar and staining that too.

Nonstop action!!!!

I did some drywall work the last few days to fix some issues. I have finished my kitchen and knocked down an internal brick chimney in my house. Used the brick as a façade for my island. Stripped the paint off another brick chimney in my house as well. Next up is to finish up the drywall work and paint. Also need to add insulation to the attic... thinking of going with spray foam and hiring a contractor.

We just did a huge reno on a several rooms in our house two months ago. Kitchen, living room - including new furniture, basement - which wasn't finished and now it is, resodding the entire yard, landscaping, etc. One week later...both HVAC units went out. :x Both had to be replaced. But wait, it gets better! :( Turns out the copper lines for the upstairs unit were to small. Had to be pulled and replaced. Guess where they ran through... You got it, the basement. As in the newly dry walled and painted basement.

The only good news out of all of this for us was the basement is now a ventilated. or whatever, area and adds to the square footage of the house.

I prefer the term financially wise, far from rich.

I get that same comment when people see that I drive a Tesla.

I have 2 kids in daycare. I am FAR FAR FAR away from rich.

you're in Texas too now right? What you can get out there compared to here in Los Angeles is laughable.

I wish I could have saved some of the brick from our fireplace for some other use. The previous owners had:
1. Painted all the brick black.
2. Then decided to put tile over all the brick - so they liquid nailed dry wall to the brick face and then tiled the dry wall.

The bricks were all a mess and non-salvageable.

We haven't done any complete renovations yet - the cost to buy here was so high that we can only do things that I can do most/part of the work for and then bring someone in to finish if there is something I can't do myself. I've done a little drywall and paint work (previous own had built a shelf into a closet wall for stereo equipment, leaving a 2'x4' hole in the closet facing into the living room when they left) but nothing major. Little stuff like painting that is incredibly cheap to do yourself. Put up a nice little chair rail in my daughters room to give it some character.

Some outside work that's simple - hung a new gate for one side of the house to block off the run on that side (so the kids don't play near the gas line/meter and the crawlspace entrance). Put up a lattice/privacy fence on top of the concrete wall in the back (used to be able to stare out our kitchen slider into our neighbors house).

Finding the time for things with family is difficult...

Realistically, you're also paid a little less than the same job out here. But, I don't think the cost of living vs wages is 1:1 difference.

Definitely less as I have head hunters a lot offering jobs in California.

But yes the dollar of course goes much further in Texas in comparison to California. I will say this area is one of, if not the fastest growing part of the country and the housing market is a disaster for current owners. Real estate taxes are terrible.
