I do not think its undebatable. You have Jordan clearly 1. Then I think you could argue
Lebron
Kobe
Duncan
Olajuwon
Shaq
Not far behind
Kidd
Pippen
Wade
KG
Malone
Before anyone goes crazy I do not include guys before my time just because I have not seen them play.

LeBron #2 is as inarguable as MJ #1.
You can argue Kobe over LeBron?
Good talks!!! !

I would take Lebron over Kobe but you could argue for Kobe and I am sure some people would. For me Duncan is #2 on the list.

You can argue Kobe over LeBron like you can argue DWade over LeBron, it's just a terrible argument that you can only make irrationally, not based on any actual data.

Re: Nothing Else Matters.... In One More Day He's Back!!!!!!
I feel like watching games from the 60s and 70s makes me appreciate those dudes even less. You can almost throw the 80s in there as well. You see guys try harder on defense in game 3 of the preseason than they did in the NBA Finals of some of those Lakers/Celtics matchups, it's really funny to watch.
Re: Nothing Else Matters.... In One More Day He's Back!!!!!!
Yeah, I mean I have seen the old greats play a lot on NBA tv and all that but you can't get the same out of watching a game or two as following guys careers like I have with the guys I listed. I loved Isiah Thomas and his game but I was like 10 when he retired. I am not even going to try with Larry, Magic, and Dr. J. I know they were great and thats good enough for me.

Re: Nothing Else Matters.... In One More Day He's Back!!!!!!
I love Chris Paul and but unless he tries to do a Gary Payton he is going down as one of the best to never win. That being said, I have financial implications that cause me to root against him this series so go Jazz!!!!!

I just saw your last line as I was going to say, wait a minute, Larry Bird, Magic Johnson, maybe even Isiah Thomas and Kareem Abdul Jabbar.wdoupis wrote:I do not think its undebatable. You have Jordan clearly 1. Then I think you could argue

I appreciate it, as I thought I had it started last night, but didn't get it there.Cnasty wrote:I am so proud of egging this on as you guys are entertainment worthy. Thanks!
Only problem is Billy has LeBron as "top 10" and I refuse to debate with anyone that unwilling to be rational. It was fun while it lasted for 2 hours!!!

Billy wins, Shel quits!!!

Re: Nothing Else Matters.... In One More Day He's Back!!!!!!
So I'm not on the up and up on basketball but understand that Lebron is probably one of the to 4-5 all time players.
But didn't the level of basketball greatly improve over the last 20 years or so? Like players from the 80s and earlier at least would just get absolutely crushed in today's game?

That's 35-40 years, and yes. Though that's basically the same for all the major sports over any 30-40 year timeframe IMO.Uuaww wrote:But didn't the level of basketball greatly improve over the last 20 years or so? You could argue that the level of play hasn't greatly improved, rather the style of play has "improved."Uuaww wrote:So I'm not on the up and up on basketball but understand that Lebron is probably one of the to 4-5 all time players.

I am not a fan of the true iso plays, but can appreciate greatness when I see it. I was a huge fan of the Jazz and their pick and roll, hell you don't even see it that much anymore. Take that last statement with a grain of salt as I have only watched the playoffs this year.
The defense argument is moot as well. The physical play of the 80's early 90's does not exist today.
BTW, there will be a two part series on ESPN about the Lakers and Celtics June 13th

Defense today is, by a conservative measure, about 4 trillion times better than in the 80s.GeorgesGoons wrote:The defense argument is moot as well. The physical play of the 80's early 90's does not exist today.

I'll agree to disagree. I was a fan of the physical style of defense.shel311 wrote:Defense today is, by a conservative measure, about 4 trillion times better than in the 80s.GeorgesGoons wrote:The defense argument is moot as well. The physical play of the 80's early 90's does not exist today.
