its not anything 'new'

for what i do, its a dud. it might be great for the car or the next step in the process, but in terms of the immediate impact, its not really anything people are going to be crazy to buy the stock because of

No

No one even knew if the 3 would include auto pilot or not let alone autonomous included.

This simply isn't auto pilot this is auto pilot on Barry bonds type steroids that completely changes the face of autonomous driving as what the future is hoping for and they are the first to do it. Let alone including it on a $35k vehicle.

Pretty huge

So stock Dave, totally get it and you are right. Car industry standards, current owners, and 3 reservation holders this is absolutely huge.

@elonmusk Will post video of a Tesla navigating a complex urban environment shortly. That was what took the extra couple of days.

all the people bearish on the stock are saying that this was basically a long winded way to sneak out bad news. i'm not really sure what they are talking about tho, i guess they are taking out some of the auto pilot features in the new models?

Probably this?

Before activating the features enabled by the new hardware, we will further calibrate the system using millions of miles of real-world driving to ensure significant improvements to safety and convenience. While this is occurring, Teslas with new hardware will temporarily lack certain features currently available on Teslas with first-generation Autopilot hardware, including some standard safety features such as automatic emergency breaking, collision warning, lane holding and active cruise control. As these features are robustly validated we will enable them over-the-air, together with a rapidly expanding set of entirely new features. As always, our over-the-air software updates will keep customers at the forefront of technology and continue to make every Tesla, including those equipped with first-generation Autopilot and earlier cars, more capable over time.

I feel like I'm talking to my mom about all the technological enhancements the actual car is getting and the futuristic things that are so far out there it seems disappointing now based on what they have done.

We are excited to announce that, as of today, all Tesla vehicles produced in our factory – including Model 3 – will have the hardware needed for full self-driving capability at a safety level substantially greater than that of a human driver. Eight surround cameras provide 360 degree visibility around the car at up to 250 meters of range. Twelve updated ultrasonic sensors complement this vision, allowing for detection of both hard and soft objects at nearly twice the distance of the prior system. A forward-facing radar with enhanced processing provides additional data about the world on a redundant wavelength, capable of seeing through heavy rain, fog, dust and even the car ahead.

To make sense of all of this data, a new onboard computer with more than 40 times the computing power of the previous generation runs the new Tesla-developed neural net for vision, sonar and radar processing software. Together, this system provides a view of the world that a driver alone cannot access, seeing in every direction simultaneously and on wavelengths that go far beyond the human senses.

I am all for technology, but I really feel that autonomous vehicles, from an IT perspective, are a bad idea.
I can just imagine a car full of a family of 4 or 5 and the computer has a glitch and they are all dead.
Yes, I know you will still be in the drivers seat, however, once this tech is out and people are comfortable, they will be eating breakfast, drinking coffee and reading a newspaper, all at the same time, or they will take a nap on the way to work when that glitch happens.

Is it cool, absolutely the coolest, I just don't trust computers with my life. I support them everyday and know how finicky they can be.

i'm a stock guy. my entire life is based on stocks. i've made every penny i have from stock speculation, i learned more life lessons from stocks than just about anything other than my parents, i spend every waking moment studying stocks or watching basketball. i'm not even a businessman, i'm actually a horrible businessman. being a businessman means smoozing and marketing and selling and i do none of that stuff. i literally trade and manage assets the way i feel is best. i could earn 10x what i do if i let someone manage the business side but i perform and i am honest so the people who gravitate to me generally stick with me for life. Those who don't are the ego maniacs who 'know more'.

anyways, the point is, any time i comment on anything biz related its strictly from 'how the market/stock will react'. cause thats all i understand.

This is exactly right and agree 150%.

Will there be a level of AI accident, of course but according to what Google has been doing for over a million miles the only accidents its autonomous vehicles have been is like 2.

I am fully on board with autonomous transportation as it will reduce casualties, accidents, traffic metrics and other huge factors in how the world is evolving with transportation.

To say this is a "dud" whether stock Dave or non-tech Dave is just wrong on so many levels. I think at some point we are so spoiled with technology, nothing amazes us anymore.

Watching this video is downright astonishing and living in the future. Just go back even 5 years and I would never even imagine driving an electric only car, capable of 200 miles+ of range, that drives itself on auto pilot and then they release this???

Come on!! Get hyped David.

Tesla CEO Elon Musk says that “when searching for parking, the car reads the signs to see if it is allowed to park there, which is why it skipped the disabled spot.”

its not about being right or wrong. its about what is objective and what is subjective.

when i hear 'new product launch' and then he announces that it's a let down. i'm expecting potential new revenue source or more transformational products. at best this was an upgrade not so much a new product. the stock action is all i care about and the reaction to the news, not the news itself or what it means to the company going forward. given the price reaction to the news, it was a 'dud'.

Right. Even if I agree with Niddler that I trust myself more than my car's computer(I wouldn't agree), I'd still trust the computer more than I trust other drivers.

I think the easiest way to put it is just hypothetically, someone tells me right now every car in the world can be completely autonomous. They tell me there's a chance my car's computer can have a glitch and crash and kill me entire family but they also tell me I'm 50% less likely to be killed in a car accident(made up number), I'll take that trade every time.

We know and this is why you have tunnel vision that this was a "dud" versus seeing how this has the possibility to revolutionize transportation like Google has been assisting with as well.

My guess is Dave is saying we've already seen that and we know Tesla is going to do that(I'm sure it's baked into the stock price, which is why this news didn't do much of anything for it), so this news is not really surprising, doesn't move the needle.

i don't really think about it like 'money'. its an objective measure of truth to me. its a puzzle. the rewards are $ but i don't think about my investments like i do money in my pocket. i'm a cheap fuck who freaks out if i lose a 20 dollar bet but i risk insanely large amounts daily for myself.

objective vs subjective.
