I don't think they are too young.
Hell, at the high school where I work, kids were distracted by our Head Coach talking about not applying the following season.

Re: College Basektball 2015
I think he did it as a loyalty thing to his top assistant. It forces the schools hand. Hard to hire a good coach after the season has started. I was watching BTN Live and they were discussing this exact scenario.

You have no fucking clue what is going on with the coach and his team.
He may have had conversations with each and every player explaining that he wants to do what is best for the organization and if that means stepping aside and allowing a younger coach to breath new life into the program, then it is what it is.
I am not saying that is what it is, I have no idea, but neither do you.
Everyone is so god damn judgemental these days.
Last I checked, this is a free country and he didn't have to call up jsence and ask for permission to step aside as a head coach.
Do you honestly think he does this if they're 10-2? If he wanted his assistant to get some experience, why didn't he step aside before the season and allow him to do so?
If I'm on a team and my coach sits down with me and explains he wants to do what is best, I'm still going to feel like he quit on me--especially when I cannot leave without sitting out a year. I could've transferred in the offseason, but I wanted to play for this coach. Now I can lose the entire season, or I can transfer after the semester and lose half of two different seasons.

If he orchestrated this to get his assistant the job, as is widely believed at the moment, then yes. He was ready to retire at the end of last season but decided to come back, probably because there was no assurance that his top assistant would get the job.jsence2 wrote:The_Niddler wrote:jsence, are you there in the locker room or at practices?

Re: College Basektball 2015
the whole assistant thing has been going on for a while and they weren't willing to give that guy the job... so that part makes sense.
but i'm not sold that he would have stepped down if he thought they were a legit contender this year.

Re: College Basektball 2015
Kids don't always want to play for a certain coach. Some kids want to play for a certain team.
I am sure some kids want to play for Kentucky, Duke, North Carolina, etc. and have always wanted to. So to those kids, it doesn't really matter who the coach is.
And yes Jsence, I believe even if they were 10-2 he would have done this.
As Peay stated, this way, he can have his assistant guaranteed the job for the rest of this season and he can show what he brings to the table.
Again, he may have had conversations with some of the key players and explained this situation, you don't know.
But again, why do you care so much Jason?

You're a fool to think this move would have been made if the Badgers were 10-2.The_Niddler wrote:Kids don't always want to play for a certain coach. Some kids want to play for a certain team.

Because he threw a player under the bus for wanting to leave mid-season, and the kid had to file an appeal to get to transfer because Ryan basically gave him a list of like ten schools he could transfer to. And then he gets praised by people like Vitale for being such a leader. Sorry, but I don't know many great leaders who just quit when things aren't going well.

What was UCONN record when their coach stepped down and gave the reigns to Ollie? Dave?packsyd2284 wrote:You're a fool to think this move would have been made if the Badgers were 10-2.The_Niddler wrote:Kids don't always want to play for a certain coach. Some kids want to play for a certain team.

He retired in September 2012, and UConn was banned from postseason play in 2012-13.

He retired before the season started. Players could transfer if they wanted to, and numerous did, because of the ban without sitting out a year. I don't view that as the same type of deal as Bo Ryan.

I don't either, but the fact there was a ban after he left meant something.jsence2 wrote:He retired before the season started. Players could transfer if they wanted to, and numerous did, because of the ban without sitting out a year. I don't view that as the same type of deal as Bo Ryan.

That UCONN argument is a terrible one. Not only was it before the season but we all know Calhoun has had terrible health at the end of his career.

I don't follow UCONN basketball. It was just something I read and didn't know if it correlated here.packsyd2284 wrote:That UCONN argument is a terrible one. Not only was it before the season but we all know Calhoun has had terrible health at the end of his career.
