2015 MLB Thread
Re: 2015 MLB Thread
postseason is a small sample size. Anyone can be great for 10ish games.
Castro's age is irrelevant. He's played 6 seasons with the cubs, it's not liek he's a rookie.

Re: 2015 MLB Thread
Hasn't he had solid seasons before?
Re: 2015 MLB Thread
his best WAR yr he was 60th in the league and it was 4 seasons ago. This yr, 0.8, last yr, 2.8.
streamer projects him to 281/308/397 WRC+ of 90, 1.2 WAR, 2.0 rated defense and -7.5 defense

Didn't the Jays give Happ 36 million after trading him for Michael Saunders and a bag of balls

2012: 3.1 WAR
2013: 0.1 WAR
2014: 2.8 WAR
2015: 0.8 WAR
And according to Fangraphs while UZR didnt like his work, his defensive value over this six year period was 24.3 or roughly 4 per year

"He played very well for the Cubs this post season."
Starlin Castros numbers from the 9 game sample size
176/200/294 (OPS if 494), WRC+ of 20, wOBA os .201
in what fucking world is this good?

Re: 2015 MLB Thread
While I certainly wouldn't have dealt for him I still think you're being a bit harsh and it's a pretty similar to the Gyorko for Jay deal and I'd argue Castro is better than Gyorko

Re: 2015 MLB Thread
They don't anymore. The last 3 years the only money they will spend is money coming off the books the following year. Hank/Hal instituted that with Cashman.nick wrote:when you have an unlimited bankroll like the yanks, any "dart" is worthwhile because it dont mean shit - doesnt mean its a good one.DRWebs wrote:Worthwhile dart throw in my opinion
If they still had unlimited bankroll and would just throw money at anyone, they would have been making one of these giant splash signings the past few years. Doesn't mean they don't have a large payroll, but they unlimited bankroll of years past is gone.

.296 OBP 11 HR and 69 RBI's not a terrible year.
He has hit .281 lifetime and before this year he has been on some GOD AWFUL teams. He is not as bad as you say he is.

Don't be bringing average, rbis, and home runs up in here.
This group will rip your heart right out with those rookie attempts

I wish the sox would make a run at Frazier from Cincy and sent the panda back out to the bamboo trees.
Reds shopping him around.

Never saw the Panda deal working out, thought it was a terrible signing but I also thought Hanley was a good one so I'm not the best evaluator obviously

Re: 2015 MLB Thread
The Astros and Phillies are in agreement on a trade that will send right-hander Vincent Velasquez, lefty Brett Oberholtzer and another prospect to Philadelphia in exchange for young closer Ken Giles
Reliever for two young starting pitchers and one more prospect. I personally am a huge fan of Velasquez so obviously happy with the deal. Plus the fact closers can be very volatile assets
