Re: College Football 2015
ND was brought up, felt like a good time to bring up that little nugget I had heard. I stand by it.
ND has lost that aura, it's nowhere near what it used to be, i'm not sure some of the most diehard ND fans would disagree with that.

Couldn't agree with you more and sadly if you substitute ND for Texas above and it makes for a not so compelling week 1 game. I looked at tickets to go and they were wanting upwards of $450 nosebleed for that one. As much as I want to go to South Bend for that one, I decided to pass.shel311 wrote:ND was brought up, felt like a good time to bring up that little nugget I had heard. I stand by it.

one of my big sports fan regrets was missing this game. you never know when a great game will happen, but winning in double OT @ND was something i wish i bit the bullet on in hindsight

That's absolutely the truth, I don't think anyone would deny it. I also don't think that aura that you're likely referring to is ever coming back and it may not even be matched in college football again. The mix of education/athletics is much different today it seems.
To a lesser degree, from just the athletic side, I think other teams experience this as well. Nebraska, Miami, USC, and Michigan for instance.

ND was the only school people could watch/listen to for DECADES. now i can watch NAIA schools on the internet. it'll never be the same but that doesn't mean it doesn't have an amazing history.

You have to wonder how much of the history is built on a false perception. As a sports fans we have so much more information at our disposal today. How much stuff was swept under the rug through all of those years to help keep the image alive?

This was mine. Was watching it with my buddy (one of my groomsmen) who is a huge ND fan. That was the year the streak died

its true of everything.ReignOnU wrote:You have to wonder how much of the history is built on a false perception. As a sports fans we have so much more information at our disposal today. How much stuff was swept under the rug through all of those years to help keep the image alive?
many of our historical heroes were probably complete scumbags. you were literally at the hands of the media for perception until about 10 years ago.
thats why we're in such a great age right now for disruption and improvement. information and truth brings some short term pain but ultimately will make things far better over time.

I know. a game in south bend is still a game in south bend. I think Im going to try to buy a ticket for next season when they play in Austin. My kid will be a little older and maybe that will be our first father son game.DRiccio21 wrote:one of my big sports fan regrets was missing this game. you never know when a great game will happen, but winning in double OT @ND was something i wish i bit the bullet on in hindsight

IO agree with everything said about Notre Dame. Kind of strange that they were playing for a title just a few years ago too.
I will say my favorite USC home football games to attend are the Notre Dame ones. They travel well and the Coliseum is sold out and it is usually a December night game and it is cold and rowdy.
Prob the coolest football venue I have ever been to/prettiest campus is Notre Dame, easily.

Pat. I travel to college campuses all over the country and to have a campus that tops Duke and/or Colgate would be impressive. they are absolutely incredible in their own way. ND has the money and tradition to make it happen though so ill have to check it out soon.packsyd2284 wrote:IO agree with everything said about Notre Dame. Pepperdine's campus is cool but it is mainly the view. It's a tad over rated if you're from California and have seen the beach a thousand times.
One of my football players goes to Colgate and the campus is gorgeous, as is Duke.
I would take Notre Dame during the fall over any other campus.

That was such a bizarre run to the title game. It was really a situation of everything falling just right for them. The team wasn't some kind of dominating juggernaut.packsyd2284 wrote:IO agree with everything said about Notre Dame. Kind of strange that they were playing for a title just a few years ago too.
