thanks, by like the 5th or 6th drive i just got up there with confidence and dipped and ripped. usually i stand over my ball for a while and overthink the swing. felt nice to feel like i had some margin for error.

This is key. My driver swing rarely if ever changes. But I can go 3 rounds without missing a fairway and then 5 hitting like 50% or less. All just based on the feel in my head and confidence. The driver swing (once refined) is all about a confident swing. You've got to trust it and just "let it rip" so to speak. Sounds like you were nailing it

Back in the day when I was first really getting into the sport, getting a good driver was the single act that made the biggest difference in my game

i dont know if its the club or it was the loft on the club but i was getting a nice fade on all my drives today, i get that on almost all my iron shots but usually my driver goes super high and slices way out of bounds. today things started low and a little left but exploded up and had a similar fade as i get on my irons and landed em right in the fairway. it was a great feeling

Change in shaft stiffness and kickpoint relative to your swing speed can impact that. Driver head MOI and CG could also play a part.

I'm guessing your old driver was a regular shaft. Your swing speed is faster than that shaft dictates. You likely got your hands ahead of what the club could keep up with, and the face remained open through impact, leaving the ball out right and causing the slice.

With the stiff shaft, the club can keep up with the higher swing speeds, and it makes more solid contact.

Assuming all other things in the swing path are correct that is

Played freakin awful last Friday, and I'm playing with my brother in law tomorrow. Wanted to hit balls after work this week but we keep getting the damn
Florda daily storms and it keeps screwing me over. I decided to go to the range at lunch today to work on some things. The lunch range trip may be my new favorite. Still get to eat lunch at my desk (so it's like a double lunch break) and got to get away from the office. I recommend it highly

why would it be smarmy?

Played badly.
Rain has limited my practice.
Found an opportunity to practice and was able to get out of extra work by doing so.

If anything it's a cheerful tale of a man who fought the odds to work on his golf game...

Shot an 87 today at a course Id never played. Rusty to start, drunk at the end, with some really solid holes in between. I had 2 eagle putts, one came on a par 4 dogleg where I played a fade that didnt end up fading, instead cutting the dogleg over trees and onto the green about 15 ft away. Drive was 270 but the hole is recorded at 360 yds. Missed both eagle putts, but solid hits to get there

This seems relevant after the pic with all the good terms and such of course.

any righties ever try to putt left handed?

i realized today i'm right eye dominant and i was aiming almost all my putts way right and i couldn't ever figure out why. i almost felt like i was drunk i was so bad at reading my lines. i turned over and was putting lefty and suddenly my lines were all much better and i rolling them close or dropping them.

i'm sure this is all in my head and i probably just got lucky today, but wondering if anyone ever tinkered with it.

i am one of those people who do somethings lefty (like play pool, shoot a gun, etc) so it might just be another thing like that. not really sure

I golf right, am right eye dominant and had a similar issue. I straightened it out by leaning further over my putter head and using a center-shafted putter. That combination of changes has been money for me. Putting is usually a strength.

Sometimes I regret choosing righty for golf. I throw left, shoot jumpers left (attack the rim right), spike with either hand without even thinking about it and used to bat right and left. When I got heavy into softball, I felt more consistent right, even though I had a bit more power left. I started golfing about 2yrs into that and figured the transition would be easy... in hindsight, that was probably the worst thing I could do. Hulk smash!

I'm left handed and lefty dominant with everything but I golf right handed. Just always have. Sometimes I wonder if I would have gotten more power if I would have golf left handed or it would have been easier for me to learn. With putting if it is under say 5 feet I actually stand with the ball in between my legs and swing the putter with just my left hand. It is a lot more accurate for me to put this way. I can't get a ton of power this way but if it's shorter I like to go this way on the course.

Another thing Dave... get your alignment from behind the ball. Use the markings on your ball to direct you shot and look for a target that is just a few feet in front of your ball, on the line. My practices swings are for tempo, then I address the ball and try to keep the same tempo, while aiming "through" the shorter target.

Golfed one of the best rounds of my life yesterday despite a terrible double-bogey on a par 3. There were three par 3's on the 9, so par 34 total and I ended up 3 over which is as good as it gets for me. Biggest contributor was my 62deg wedge around the greens, I was able to tuck a couple close for tap-ins and even sank one across the green from the fringe. Considering putting has been a weak spot for me, thats a huge swing.

Really only had one bad drive on 9 (edit: and 6 when I caught a tree), and I blame myself. I knocked the ball off the tee when I approached it, and instead of resetting my routine I just gripped it and ripped it. Im excited to see where my numbers end up for the year to be able to calculate my handicap. Ive been calling myself an 18 handicap but looking at my rounds this year I may need to shave some off of that
