Re: NFL Thread
We've all popped fireworks before, right? Who here ever legit thought there was a chance they'd lose a finger doing so?

its stupid for anyone to blow a finger off in a firework accident. the fact he's got a few mil in the bank doesn't make any dumber.

Really? the Giants just pulled off a 60+ million offer off the table due to it. IMO. that makes a huge difference.DRiccio21 wrote:no, i won't.texasfan4444 wrote:I think he will still go with the risk reward aspect.Cnasty wrote:Cue Riccio with "these are normal guys just like us" schpieltexasfan4444 wrote:Idiots. in hindsight, he should live in a bubble til he signs the contract and gets the bonus.

Just In my opinion but It's just common sense. At that level you body is an investment. I'm sure Jeff Gordon doesn't decide to take his race car to jiffy lube because they have a 9.99 oil change special and his neighbor did it.DRiccio21 wrote:in hindsight, he should live in a bubble til he signs the contract and gets the bonus.

I get what you are saying people have to live..but when your body is our livelihood, you have a responsibility to your self and your family to not do stupid shit like that. I mean I fired off fireworks this weekend knowing that if I blew up a finger or hand, I'd have to work no matter what. It was my choice and that was his choice. But I didn't have 60+ mill on the table to fuck up. Also, I didn't blow up my hand. Thank God.

Re: NFL Thread
What's dumber, having a few million and losing more millions from losing a few fingers from a fireworks accident... Or making $50k in some manual labor/construction type job and losing a few fingers and thus risking your ability to keep working?

Fine Karl Edwards who ever the fuck else Nick. The point is when you get paid handsomely for what you do there are certain responsibilies that you need to respect. If any of us go out and God forbid kill someone while drinking and driving wouldn't we all more than likely get fired? Now go out and do something like that when you are negotiating a raise with your boss at the end of a contract. Not only is the raise out of the question, but now you are looking for a new gig.nick wrote:Jeff Gordon is your example?
Am I that old school to think this?

Endangerment to self and others. Different degrees but either is endangering their own career in its own way. UNNECESSARILY.nick wrote:drinking and driving =/= lighting a roman candle
If I was an nfl player...I'd have a driver, a cook, a personal trainer, and a doc that knew all the rules of the league. I wouldn't leave it to myself to fuck it up. If I like fireworks..I'd fly to the best place to watch them in the states. If I wanted to go fast if go rent out six flags and ride all day. Minimize the risk other than on the field. Play balls out and if I get hurt in the game or in practice I still know I'm covered. I see it as a professional responsibility to yourself, teammates, owners, and fans.

Re: NFL Thread
In other news. I met Vince Young briefly at the ATL airport. He was jumping in the train to the rental cars as I was getting off. I had a Texas shirt and so did he. Said hooked on the way out and caught myself and went back and shook his hand. He's a bit thicker these days than when he played. Was cool to somewhat meet him in passing. If that's possible.

its the same debate i have with AJ everytime someone gets in trouble for drinking and driving and he says they should never drive after a drink. in hindsight obviously both of you are right... but it's not reality.
you're trying to create a world for people simply because they earn more money than you. it would be no different if two unemployed poor people looked at you with fireworks and said how silly of a choice it was for you to do it.
and if we're playing the risk/reward game i think you took on a much more significant risk lighting off fireworks than JPP did.

Re: NFL Thread
I used pvc tubes, which help contain the blast if it blows in the tube to light off even the Roman candles. We make everyone do this specially any kids. Not once did I light anything in my hand. We usually sting mortars together and use a remote fuse igniter for the big things. I was usually 30 feet from the fireworks before anything was lit on fire. Next year we are getting a remote unit that will allow for up to 12 remote firing fuses. It's actually cheap on Amazon.
I get your point Dave. I really do. It just seems silly that someone would be that careless specially during contract negotiations. It's something I wouldn't put myself through for the sake of doing something.

That's the point I was making. A dude who already has millions, theoretically, is risking less by doing so than the average Joe Schmo.DRiccio21 wrote:and if we're playing the risk/reward game i think you took on a much more significant risk lighting off fireworks than JPP did.

We had 2 incidents at our annual event this year... pretty eye opening. We use tubes and have firing pallets constructed as well. Unfortunately, someone brought a bunch of smaller stuff that they tried to fire out of 1 of the tubes and it took a wicked launch right out of the larger tube and shot towards the edge of the crowd. It actually hit a spectator and burned him pretty good (admittedly wasn't paying attention or he probably could have dodged it... we were a good distance away). The 2nd incident involved a multishot shifting and shooting sideways over a neighbor's horse field, about 200yds away.
I don't think it's going to sway us from putting on a huge show, but we're going to continue to look for ways to try to make it safe.

He was a really nice guy the few weeks we had him in Cleveland. He was "thicker" then too, but I'm guessing even moreso nowtexasfan4444 wrote:In other news.
