If you aren't cheating, you aren't trying.
Where do you fall on steroid use?

You may not want to watch sports if all of these things outrage you. I'm sure you're not naive enough to think just about all of these teams are doing similar things to gain any advantage they can.

Fine the Patriots $100k today, and let's put this one to bed.
I think there's a difference between pushing the envelope in something that is a judgement call regarding the rules and defying the rules in order to win.

Pretending you trapped a catch in baseball or football and hoping no one saw is one thing. Using an illegal substance while pitching to gain an advantage, corking your bat (which I think is more comparable than too much pine tar since that can be a judgement thing), or altering the equipment of the game beyond specific rules is another.

Don't care about it. Get caught, you pay the price. But I don't care and understand why a player would do it obviously.

Ok, flopping in the NBA. That's comparable. You can be fined and suspended for it.

But I think players should try to get away with flops at certain times.

I would like to know what the life of an NFL ball is. How often do they switch them out? When does a game ball no longer get submitted as a game ball? Seeit might know more about that than anyone of us.
First of all, you've become more of a dick than I could have ever given you credit for. Congrats. So, let me play along and drop down to your level. I know more about football than most people simply because I am smarter than most of all of you. Acquiring a better understanding of the game is easier for me than people like you, even if I am not exposed to it as often as you are. How's that, dick? Succinct enough?

That aside, as for the science, fuck that. It doesn't matter. If the Packers weren't scrutinized (allegedly, refs just throw the balls out and told them to fix it) and the Vikings/Panthers were just told to "stop it" then - ASSUMING THERE WASN'T A PATRIOT EMPLOYEE ON THE SIDELINE PUSHING A PIN INTO ELEVEN BALLS AFTER KICKOFF - then this is a complete and total non-issue.

Tell the Patriots to stop, issue a league-wide memo, and move on.

Oh yea, I forgot about that. Weren't the Vikings and Panthers just looked at for warming balls or something like that? What ever came of that?

The NFL issued a reminder and no one cared, but what's the difference?

And just like you, I'm sitting behind a screen and keyboard and what you type means nothing to me. Just because you say it, doesn't mean you are any smarter than anyone else. You just believe it, and I give you props for that.

First the A-Team reunites on destiny with headsets and now we get a awesome thread like this. Is it 2010?

I looked. Only Carolina was doing it (in Minnesota) and the league had warned them then sent (presumably) a memo to everyone.
As both teams dealt with the freezing temperatures, Fox cameras showed sideline attendants using heaters to warm up game balls, which is against league rules. NFL vice president of officiating Dean Blandino said Monday morning on NFL Network that officials warned both the Vikings and Panthers not to heat up the balls during Sunday's game, and would remind teams this week not to heat game balls.

This being considered an "awesome" thread shows just how far we have dropped off the map.

It's a sign of life. Anytime trendon plays the "I'm smarter than you card", AJ and shel up in here throwing opinions, packsyisms, etc. It's a treat at least for me.

Much like Rick James to the Murphy boys, the pats are "habitual line steppers"

"The Patriots are habitual line-steppers," Canty said in an appearance on NBCSN on Wednesday. "If the allegations are true, then you are talking about attacking the integrity of our game and I have an issue with that. ...

"What I'm going to say about the deflating of the balls, to me there is no difference than performance-enhancing drugs. You are cheating at that point. You are getting a competitive advantage outside of the rulebook and there has to be some sort of consequences for that."

Hmm...I'm torn, right down the middle.

A sign of life and a spark and a hopping thread, Biffy has a point.

The thread is hopping and the best debate we've had in quite a while is about air in footballs. Corey has a point.

I don't know which side to lean towards here, but hell, even debating which side has more merit would be more interesting than PSI talk.

This is true, just like getting away with a helmet to helmet hit with no penalty flag is " getting a competitive advantage outside of the rulebook and there has to be some sort of consequences for that."

So fine the Pats a few bucks, and let's move on.
