NFL Thread
Re: NFL Thread
Reporter friend of mine posted a very good question on Twitter this morning.....why wasn't the 12 ball underinflated? Did the equipment guy screw up, or were they hoping the 12th ball would be "proof" that it wasn't intentional?

Re: NFL Thread
This is the stupidest most over analyzed thing on the planet. Not to mention it works against the Pats at times as well. You want your kicking balls to be inflated as they sail further and more accurately. Finally, this is just as much on the officials as anything else. They are supposed to be constantly checking for these things during the game. Chalk it up to two weeks of nothing to talk about leading up to the big game. Well done ESPN and co.

Re: NFL Thread
Kicking balls are completely separate from this, they're not prepared ahead of time, and aren't with the 12 balls in question.packsyd2284 wrote: You want your kicking balls to be inflated as they sail further and more accurately.
The ref checks once before the game, and otherwise only checks for obvious scuffs/holes or giant changes in pressure. 2 pounds isn't all that noticeable, especially in cold weather when the refs likely had gloves onpacksyd2284 wrote: Finally, this is just as much on the officials as anything else. That part is true for sure, nothing to talk about so let's make a big deal out of this. If it wasn't the pats I feel like it would have already been gone from the news cyclepacksyd2284 wrote: Chalk it up to two weeks of nothing to talk about leading up to the big game. Well done ESPN and co.

It's a non-story for me. Just because it was made public, fine em $100k or something and let's move on.BFiVL wrote:I see this as a pitcher doctoring a baseball to thier liking. Some go a bit further than others. Teams are reportedly asking for a 3rd/4th round pick lost and a fine. Silly to me to think this isn't widely done.
I feel like it would barely be a story if it were any other team that won 45-7. The Saints would likely be somewhat of a story, but certainly not as big as NE.

He was definitely bad Sunday, but he should get like 99% of the credit just for getting a team that mediocre to the AFC CG.packsyd2284 wrote:What's truly

Also, solely on stats, his was only a little worse on the road in the regular season.

Seeit I know you love to disagree with every little thing I post but your are incorrect on the refs obligation to notice deflated footballs. I've personally coached in games where an umpire or back judge will throw a ball off and let us know if it isn't inflated we will be penalized if found again. It's not that hard.

aka they're not measuring the pressure the make sure it hasn't changed .5 pounds etc. I never said they had no obligation, I said that it's not something they check constantly unless it becomes obvious to them. I also said it's not super easy to notice 2 pounds on an nfl ball wearing gloves, which I'm assuming they were. They don't carry gauges in their pockets during the gameseeitsaveit13 wrote:otherwise only checks for obvious scuffs/holes or giant changes in pressure.
Now who loves to nitpick and disagree?

Yeah, the guy who worked in the NFL, dealt with game balls, etc doesn't know what he's talking about. He's never coached HS football!

That Colts team is not very good, he's the only reason they had a winning record. Can't fault him for how bad their defense played and how poorly they ran the ball most of the year.
