Yes...the outside the box thinking of a restart.

at this point a restart would kill the league

I think this idea would be wayyyyyyyyy worse. A restart may get a couple of guys to quit right away. But for the guys who stick around, I'm 99.9% certain immersion would be at all time highs the 1st couple of seasons.

Zero chance we restart and have our 1st or 2nd season thread be as small as the 2031 thread.

Id stick around for either as I like the game and enjoy building my team to win now and stay competitive in the future. I don't really care either way.

Id just like our league to have 30 teams all trying to win and not rebuild, rebuild, rebuild, trade away best players and prospects 26 and under. It really irritates me and that's my issue to bear.

Personally, I don't like the idea.
I agree it is out of the box thinking, but I am with Ted and think it would kill our league.
I think too many of us put in too much time with our current teams.

If you guys want to start up your own league and give it a shot, you may be able to find a few guys interested though.
Ryan has everything we need to run one if he is willing to let us as I do not think his historical league is running anymore.

And I still have mixed feelings about a restart.

What problems do you feel a restart would solve that cannot be solved in a season or 3 by us adjusting things?

Personally, I agree with shel that a restart would make our first few seasons immersion really high, but I am not sure we would have enough guys to run a league like we do today.


Just my personal feeling, but I am guessing 10 of the 30 guys would not come back if we did a restart.

And last I checked, we have ZERO people waiting to get into an OOTP league.

But my ears are always open to any suggestions. And like Ry said, I do like that Dan is thinking outside the box and providing ideas.
That is what we need to continue to keep our league fresh.
Good things come from discussions as long as everyone can talk like adults and no one gets butt hurt about it.

As far as your comments Ry about wanting 30 teams to try to win, I think, for the most part, we have that.
You have to remember, guys like Kendall with Texas, not throwing him under the bus, but he has been in cruise mode for a few seasons.
He has his reasons. We have to remember, life happens and we can't all give this thing 100% effort all the time.
But this season, he has contacted me in the offseason asking a ton of questions and getting pointers. So now, whatever was causing him to be in cruise mode, must be over and now he wants to learn more and wants to be much more involved with his team.

It isnt a bad idea in general but it would be something that would have had to be implemented at the height of the OOTP immersion or at the very beginning(restart) as a standard rule.

We are too deep into it now, guys have grown to love their little digital teams and fellas, and our immersion is topping out at maybe 7,8 guys on the boards?

You would also lose a lot of guys that dont come to the boards and only export and run their teams most likely because they enjoy their team and what they are doing with it.

Not to mention it would be a lot more work on the commish who does a ton already I am assuming.

People have complained about Solid vets not getting signed, or people not signing them because of comp picks, etc.

You can't tell me that people (myself included) wouldn't begin to sign more (not necessarily all) of those players knowing that they may be fired at the end of the year if they don't go down swinging. People would actually trade for the McCartys of the world before a whole season goes by because they know that's the difference between 85 wins and 90 wins and 90 wins might get them into the playoffs.

Then we'd find ourselves making moves to save our jobs and not necessarily making moves that are best for the team, because the 2 are different.

Once again, if we determine what gets a coach fired and what doesn't, then keeping your job IS the best thing for the team.

Say the owner personalities are (total guess):

Unscrupulous
Demanding
Fair
Patient
Hands Off

Then your goal might be something along the lines of:

Unscrupulous - Playoffs 2/3 years, or 3/3 winning records and 1 playoff, or 1 title
Demanding - Playoffs 1/3 years, or 2/3 winning records, or 1 title
Fair - 2/3 winning records, or financially in the green all 3 years, or 1 title
Patient - 1/3 winning records, or no worse than 15 games under .500 2/3 years, or financially in the green all 3 years, or 1 title
Hands Off - 1/3 within 10 games of .500, financially in the green 2/3 years, or 1 title

Just an example, obviously they'd be tinkered with and even subject to being voted on if something shakes out wrong

Looking at your breakdown, I don't think that disproves my point.

I may need to go .500 in my last season of my contract to keep my job, but if my team isn't good and I know I'm not a playoff contender, it may be in my team's best interest to trade a really good player, and thus reduce my chances of going .500, meaning making a move to save my job that's not best for my team.

It just seems like there should be some repercussion for not caring about money or not trying to win. Even if it meant flipping the draft picks so that the #1 pick goes to the team who is the 1st team to miss the playoffs. The worst team in the league gets the last pick of those that missed the playoffs etc. Losing a draft pick for being too far in the red, etc.

Things like that will help get people to sign the players that everyone keeps whining aren't signed (the guys over 32 that can still play, etc), and would lead to guys trading for older players too, which can only be better for the league

I think that might have just been a number that got tossed out there, but I agree, we're low on participation and immersion as far as the boards are concerned.

We'd probably need JD to speak on exports etc

Every team has exported at least since December 21st and that was Reign, every other team has an export in on the 24th or later

i could see the pros and cons of the GM's being fired.

to be honest, if there were realistic goals presented by the Owners i think it'd be pretty cool. i think it'd make things more sim.

but i don't think its best for the league.
