Tom Crean's gotta go. The whole IU basketball program is out of control.

Yup
Can't even make fun of him anymore, he's become that much of a joke. It's just too easy

The nails aren't in the coffin yet or even in the same room. But I would say someone is visiting the hardware aisle.Indiana University trustees, in very informal conversations, have discussed the men's basketball situation, multiple sources tell Peegs.com.
The board has not had a formal meeting or anything of that nature and the conversations to this point are more between individuals, the sources said.
Board members are "quite concerned" about the recent string of off the court issues, one of the sources said.

Kinda hard to see where Crean gets out of this mess. Indiana is probably a middle of the Big 10 type team right now which doesn't translate to a tourney team. I know there are a few talented freshman because I remember UVA recruiting Johnson and maybe Blackman(?). However, if they don't show at least potential then Crean is in a world of hurt.

This is just my opinion from being an IU fan for my whole life and understanding the mindset of the fanbase and how the university regards the basketball program; but he's done. They'll go hard after Brad Stevens and if they can't get him they'll go hard after Gregg Marshall. There will be Alford rumors but that's not happening.Hoos wrote:Kinda hard to see where Crean gets out of this mess. Only he knows that. According to all the stories and rumors he has always been an IU fan and of course he's from one of the Indy suburbs as is his wife and his whole family is Indiana based. He makes 3.6 million a year and Crean is currently making 3.2. They'd probably bump Stevens up to the 4-5 mill per year range. The real issue is if he wants to clean up what is probably going to be an ugly mess and if he wants to deal with recruiting and an impatient, know-it-all fan base that demands excellence and still thinks Bob Knight is God. The other major issue is going to Crean's buyout which is at $12 million this year but goes down significantly after this year. But if Crean is fired for cause there is no buyout but will probably be a lawsuit that would see both sides settle for something probably in the 5-8 million dollar range.nick wrote:would Stevens leave the Celts for Indiana tho?LetsGoPeay wrote:This is just my opinion from being an IU fan for my whole life and understanding the mindset of the fanbase and how the university regards the basketball program; but he's done. Similar to what we went through with Gillispie, we used "show cause" but still had to eventually pay him about $6m. Part of that was because he never actually signed his deal, but odds are you guys would get out with less with what is going on around the program.

Tim Miles Applied To Be The Leader Of Nebraska Basketball’s Student Section In Hilarious Fashion
Andrew Holleran
Typically, Tim Miles resides on the bench during Nebraska’s men’s basketball games. He sits next to his assistant coaches, occasionally walks down to talk to his players and often stands near the scorer’s table.
Perhaps this season he’ll spend some time at the heart of the student section. That seemed to be his goal, anyway.
Earlier this month, Miles, the head coach of the Nebraska men’s basketball program, submitted an application to be the leader of the Huskers’ student section.
Miles, 48, isn’t a student at the University of Nebraska, but he’s been the coach of the Huskers’ men’s basketball program for two years, so he’s probably qualified for the position. The coach made note of this in his application.
“I’m a little peeved about that, actually,” Miles joked at his Tuesday press conference. “So I’m 48 hours late for the deadline. I can’t even get a little leeway on that deal?”
Nebraska will always be a football school, but Miles is surely making Husker fans love basketball.

As the leader of the student section, Miles would be responsible for coming up with ways for the crowd to perform better during games. What ideas does he have?I am applying for the position as Winter Sports Director because I love basketball. In fact, I’ve spent the last 20+ years at various colleges closely following their basketball teams.
I’ve been to every Husker game (home and away) for the last two years. Haven’t missed a single one!! I even sneak into the arena and locker room hours before the game because I never have a ticket and want to save my front row seat. Some say I’m obsessed, I say “That’s why I’m the right man for this job.”
Miles seems to be the perfect man for the job. Unfortunately, his application arrived two days after the deadline, so he wasn’t selected.I’m not much for face or body painting but I do like to go commando for gamedays. It really gives that level of freedom that I need for inspiration. I think a tradition like this would take the Red Zone to the next level.
Other incredible ideas that I have include: Confetti cannons, Lasers (lots of lasers, you can never have too many – just ask Skrillex next week), Hawks, Laser hawks, Hawks with lasers.

Skal Labissiere is likely going to choose UK on Thursday night, and it worries me.
There is a lot of drama around this kid. He was being pursued by many of the powerhouse programs (is now down to us and Memphis) and he's a terrific talent, but his "school" (if you can call it that) screams of not being legit; his school actually postponed a scheduled game last week because he was sick. And the other school's coach agreed to it, which tells you about all you need to know about "amateur" sports.

I really hope he chooses Memphis. Just way too much about this kid that screams "stay away".By now, you should be familiar with the Skal Labissiere recruitment saga. The Haitian big man came to Memphis in 2010 after the earthquake and played at various schools in the Memphis area until he was ruled ineligible by the Tennessee Secondary School Athletic Association. Now, he’s enrolled at Lausanne Collegiate School, but is playing for Reach Your Dream Prep,a school founded by his guardian, Gerald Hamilton. If that doesn’t sound sketchy enough, Reach Your Dream Prep postponed a game with the Memphis Mustangs last week because Skal was sick.

Kentucky has one of the strictest administration processes in the country and a student-athlete guidance program that would sniff this out in a heart beat!
