External Hard Drive
External Hard Drive
This may be a dumb question, but my wife got a new camera and taking about a gazillion pictures now. We bought an external hard drive to store all of these, it just hooks up to the CPU with a USB cable. My question is, can this be used to hook up to the PS3 as well? I have a 60gb PS3 but with all the Rock Band songs I am downloading, I can envision it getting full some day. Has anyone tried this?
Re: External Hard Drive
You would just have to plug it in and see if it recognizes it like a thumb drive. To be honest, anybody worried about PS3 drive space just needs to get a new 2.5 drive and slap it in the PS3. They are dirt cheap and very easy to install. I put a 250g drive in mine a while back.
Re: External Hard Drive
Forgive my lack of knowledge on the subject, but would that 2.5 drive replace what is currently in the PS3, or just add storage? Could you past a link of one for me to check out? Thanks for your help.
Re: External Hard Drive
Yea, it would replace your current drive. The only trouble is you would have to re-download some of your stuff to the new drive. You can use a thumb drive to move things like pics and music but you have to redownload your really gay rockband stuff.
The PS store give you 5 downloads so it shouldn’t be a problem.
Here is a link below plus you can search on YouTube for the same info. It is very easy and will take you about 5 minutes to do.

Re: External Hard Drive
I have my HD always hooked up to my PS3. It shows USB device when the HD is on. Instead of hitting X you have to hit the Triangle and click Display All and then you are in your HD. At least thats how it works for me.

Re: External Hard Drive
I was wondering what a good price for 250GB would be. I'm finding them on ebay for about $58...is that a fair price? Also, how would I go about finding out how much of my 80GBs I have used up so far on my PS3 would be? Thanks.

I paid $89 for my FreeAgent Go 320, love it.
