Elder Scrolls Online (ESO)
I've been convinced to pick up. I put in my preorder last night and I believe the early access period starts on Sunday morning.
I had to create an account prior to downloading. If anyone else gets it and wants to join up, my account name is: Tekayo

No clue on the console stuff. If I stumble across it later I'll let you know.Hoos wrote:What is the price structure like for a console MMO?
PC was $60 for basic; $80 for deluxe. $15 per month sub monthly.

Re: Elder Scrolls Online (ESO)
Not a big PC gamer any more... but was fairly hardcore into between my first stint in the NDL and when I returned.
Think: Skyrim as an MMO.
If you're not familiar with Skyrim or the ES series, it's an open world, fantasy, role playing game. It has a large focus on storyline and exploration. ESO brings it into an MMO format, which usually means a massive focus on PvE / PvP. PvE is player vs. environment, which revolves around grouping in instanced dungeons and killing large computer based enemies. PvP is player vs. player, like CoD. Elder Scrolls Online uses a different style of targeting system, which is similar to a first person shooter, while maintaining some core aspects of a traditional MMO like WoW/Rift/SWTOR.
It's not a game that I see myself playing 20hrs a week, but I can kill an hour here or there on it and find it enjoyable. The graphics are exceptional for an MMORPG.

I'm willing to bet that CNasty has no fucking idea what you are talking about.ReignOnU wrote:If you're not familiar with Skyrim or the ES series, it's an open world, fantasy, role playing game. There was so much jargon in there that I pieced together this is not anything I have ever done in my life but he also broke it down very well after the acronyms so thank you for that.

Re: Elder Scrolls Online (ESO)
I got into them by complete accident. I never played a non-sports/racing game prior to the release of WoW. I was a manager for a CompUSA location at the time and used to routinely make fun of Everquest players. I got a free copy of WoW through Blizzard (they were an awesome vendor) and the guys that worked for me convinced me to play it with them. The first night I played, I was on for about 4-5 hours, just trying to figure out how to run with WASD/use the mouse at the same time. I ended up getting really good at the game and playing it at a pretty competitive level for a few years. I still have an active account and play it regularly. Along the way, I've dabbled in a few other games, but none of them have been nearly as complete and offered the same kind of environment as WoW. Each has had some awesome features that kept me interested for awhile.
For anyone that has never played an MMO, I'd actually recommend trying out Star Wars The Old Republic. It's F2P (free to play), funded by microtransactions (not required for an introduction). I think from a solo player storyline aspect, for someone just coming into the MMO world, it's pretty awesome. You can get a well written/played introduction to MMO gaming, with limited exposure to a large MMO player base. I've never watched a full Star Wars movie, nor do I care about the genre at all... but the game was solid.

The beta didn't get a glowing review. That and full price + a sub have me in the meh category for now. The fact that I enjoyed Skyrim is the only reason it's on my radar.

you liked the glitchy and incomplete port to PS3?Hoos wrote:The beta didn't get a glowing review. That and full price + a sub have me in the meh category for now. The fact that I enjoyed Skyrim is the only reason it's on my radar.

Wasn't near as bad as the Fallout games.cougnix wrote:you liked the glitchy and incomplete port to PS3?Hoos wrote:The beta didn't get a glowing review. That and full price + a sub have me in the meh category for now. The fact that I enjoyed Skyrim is the only reason it's on my radar.
Re: Elder Scrolls Online (ESO)
Yeah, Skyrim lost my interest when I completed the storyline, finished the game and it glitched and didn't give me the trophy, nor did it ever show that I finished the last battle and escape the afterworld or whatever it was. Beat the damn thing like 3 times and it never showed me completing it...

Re: Elder Scrolls Online (ESO)
I've learned that any MMO is going to have bugs at launch. What makes/breaks them is the reaction of the devs.Hoos wrote:The beta didn't get a glowing review. That and full price + a sub have me in the meh category for now. The fact that I enjoyed Skyrim is the only reason it's on my radar.
I've run into a couple of issues in the last few days, but nothing that has made me want to cancel my preorder or just not play it. Graphics are solid, storyline seems to be well developed, and the combat system and massive talent/skill trees have me intrigued enough to at least get to lvl 20 or so and get into some full zone PvP. I highly doubt that the PvE content will keep my interest like WoW has, but I came in with the expectation that I want something I can kill some time with developing my character(s) and then stick with mostly PvP, to offset my WoW PvE.

the only major glitch that I ran into was when a Dragon attacked a town and killed one of the quest giving NPCs.cougnix wrote:Yeah, Skyrim lost my interest when I completed the storyline, finished the game and it glitched and didn't give me the trophy, nor did it ever show that I finished the last battle and escape the afterworld or whatever it was.
