To play for Germany or the USA. He filed his paperwork to switch to the USA. You can only file one time, so he's locked in.
His mother is German and his father was an American stationed there, so he has dual-citizenship.

So, as much as I'd like to think he just wants to be 'Merican... can we safely assume that he thinks he can be a star for us, rather than a role player or upper-middle class player for their amazing bund?jsence2 wrote:Seeitsaveit13 wrote:What were his options again?

He's 18 years old and has played in Champions League for Bayern.
'Nuff said.

I think you have to assume that JK's extension played a role in this. Very glad to see him join.

Reign.....are you even going to follow?
I'm not having the greatest day so I think I'm going to avoid The Guardian, ESPNFC, Twitter, etc until tonight. I really don't want to watch the hope of any inclusion in Europe die while I'm at work.
If we lose this match, I honestly do not see how the Glazers can keep Moyes. I don't care if he's got a six year contract, the financial hit that will come from missing Europe next year is going to be borderline crippling when you look at the Fair Play regulations. We will have to sell RVP (which I'm fine with) and maybe not have any money to improve the team.

Re: Soccer discussion thread
I'm going to shut off Twitter after this next con call and avoid ESPN. I'll record it at home, then watch it while I'm finishing up some work tonight. I'm not excited in the least. I'm assuming a slow paced, 1-1, 1-0 kind of game. After Sunday's loss, the number of fucks that I give are rather limited.

We're down 2-0.
1-1/1-0 sees us eliminated. So does 3-1. I don't see us pitching a shutout (Olympiakos already said they won't park the buss, their manager said he "feels sorry" for Moyes....wow), so we'll need 4 goals to advance if we concede.

Re: Soccer discussion thread
I don't see them pushing into the final 3rd very much, contrary to what their manager says. There's no need to risk it with such a huge advantage. Our only hope is 3-0, imo... and this 4231 has been about the most ineffective, non-running version that I've ever seen.

No, 2-0 is enough to get us to extra time, at which point away goals no longer matter.
The 4231 is "ineffective" because the CF (Rooney) has to drop back into deep midfield to get the ball, RVP has been lazy, the guys on the wide areas (other than Janujaz) just want to keep crossing or are out of place (Mata, who needs to be in the middle involved w everything), and our holding midfielder has to focus so much on protecting the back four that they can't link up very well.
If it were me:
...................Rooney
Young.............Mata..........Januzaj
.........Carrick...........Fletcher
Evra....Jones.....Smalling.......Rafael
I wouldn't let Valencia or Welbeck touch the pitch, nor Cleverley. Fletcher will hold more then Fellaini.
But it's Moyes, so I'm sure he'll do nothing close to that. RVP needs to go, let Rooney play up top and harass the back line.

Re: Soccer discussion thread
Would be nice, but Mata is cup tied.
I just saw the starting XI come across Twitter... wow. Because it wasn't enough of an uphill battle. Shutting down access, I'll watch it when I get home.

Won't ruin the result for you, Reign
That said, RVP's season may be over due to a knee injury late. While it would alleviate some issues w Mata/Rooney, would also be a big blow.

Re: Soccer discussion thread
Just finished watching. Man, kind of a fitting ending there. He kills it, then gets killed. I'll check out the typical sites tomorrow morning for an update.
Gotta be grateful for the easy elimination round matchup (that we made look difficult), but the idea that we win the UCL and qualify for next season is a wild dream. (would love it if it came true)
The rumor mill is really flying with future coach ideas. I thought it was pretty quiet until Feb, but these last few weeks it has been cranked up. I'm just not a believer in the idea that Moyes can put a lot of elite talent together and get the most out of them. Obviously the defense/defensive mid have problems, but the lack of scoring points more to a coaching issue, imo.

Re: Soccer discussion thread
UCL Draw:
Ties to be played April 1 and 2 and April 8 and 9
Barcelona vs. Atletico Madrid
Real Madrid vs. Borussia Dortmund
Paris Saint-Germain vs. Chelsea
Manchester United vs. Bayern Munich
Barca, RM and Bayern seem obvious, but that PSG-Chelsea matchup looks great.
