Re: Random Discussions
Is it even possible to completely disable the communications and tracking system from the plane? You'd think they'd have measures in place to stop that.
Assuming you can't do that, I don't even have a guess as to what happened.
If you can, that plane could have just been hijacked and taken somewhere and we'd have no clue. Too much airspace and too long of response time. They'd probably know where to go to avoid ground based radar.
How can there not be direct satellite tracking of all aircraft at all times? We have enough geostationary satellites for it.

Re: Random Discussions
I will guess because it is unnecessary. We already have tracking systems in place that track, what, 99.99999% of planes that hit the airs. The reason this is such a big story is because of the extreme rarity of losing a goddamn plane.dakshdar wrote:How can there not be direct satellite tracking of all aircraft at all times? Some Google-fu brings up some comments that seem to have come from colleagues of yours. They agree with you.

"I asked this question 5 years ago after the Air France crash to an online forum: Why do we need black boxes when we have satellite broadband. It got swiftly slapped down by some experts saying it was prohibitively expensive."
"The only thing that it is "prohibitively expensive" to, is the profits of overpaid experts and consultants who are still living in the days of $700 hammers, $9000 coffee pots.
You can now get a $3 altimeter or a $4 gyroscope in your phone, and the people who sell $30k altimeters for planes and $40k gyroscopes for planes are not happy about it at all. It is "prohibitively" detrimental to their profits. Of course, they will say, theirs are better."

An airline pilot spotted a large debris field floating in the ocean near Ho Chi Minh City.

Re: Random Discussions
What I'm saying is that when something like this happens, you go to the satellites because they see all. 99.99999% chance that one of them caught something, but we won't hear about it because it is one you can't know about.trendon wrote:I will guess because it is unnecessary. Sony has created a disc capable of 300GB of storage.
Imagine the games on that beast.

Re: Random Discussions
I dont understand why they dont put lights in all the freezers too
Re: Random Discussions
I cant really think of a reason that would be necessary in day-to-day lifeCnasty wrote:Sony has created a disc capable of 300GB of storage.![]()

Having a rough day in your disc hatin, dark freezer adventures?
Btw, I have a light in my freezer but I have one of those cool freezer on the bottom models.
Let's worry about a dishwasher before a fridge upgrade.

My top drawer doesn't pull out nearly as far as I'd like to, slightly annoying.
Re: Random Discussions
You guys like the freezer on bottom? It seems like there is less space, although it's probably all in my head

With 2 rows, it's pretty roomy.Weasel wrote:You guys like the freezer on bottom? It seems like there is less space, although it's probably all in my head
Though with 2 kids, we've been in the market for a stand alone freezer as we need more room, but I'm not sure if we wouldn't be in the market if we had the normal freezer as well.

Re: Random Discussions
Love it.
Especially being a taller fella I love having everything right in front of me when hitting the fridge.
Lots of room but Yea, I also have a standalone freezer in the garage as its definitely needed for meat and all the other frozen goods.

This seems like a good place for this. I fucking hate cats. The info graphic for the 911 call is gold.
