Re: Champions League Season Thread (GROUP STAGE OPEN, DUE 3/

Post by jsence2 »

I have simmed out the matches and due to the fact that Arsenal/Dortmund and Bayern/Barcelona was equal in attempt to play, I didn't reward any points or goals for it, as not to impact the standings. I actually consider it a 0-0 draw with no points awarded.

Thus, here are the final standings.

Final standings, Group A:

Real Madrid 14 points
Manchester City 13 points
PSG 9 points (ahead on goal diff)
Arsenal 9 points
Dortmund 5 points

Final Standings, Group B:

Juventus 22 points
Chelsea 16 points
Bayern 7 points
Barcelona 4 points
Milan 3 points

The winners of Group A (Madrid, City) will be drawn randomly against the 3/4 teams of Group B (Bayern, Barca).

The winners of Group B (Juventus, Chelsea) will be drawn randomly vs the 3/4 teams in Group A (Arsenal/PSG)
----------------------------------------

The Knockout Rounds will be:

Real Madrid v Bayern Munich
Manchester City v Barcelona
Juventus v Arsenal
Chelsea v PSG

The team listed first is the home team. Thus, these two instructions need to be followed:

1) The first match played needs to be an "online friendly" hosted by the second team listed (the away side). The second match needs to be played as an "online friendly" hosted by the first team listed.

The team that scores the most total goals between the two matches advances. If both teams are equal on goals, then the team that scored the most goals away from home will advance.

If away goals are tied, then instruction 2 comes into play:

2) A third game needs to be played, but this needs to be set up by the team listed first, and it needs to be done by going into a LOBBY (not "online friendlies) and meeting. This is the only way to elect to play with extra time or penalties.

The game needs to be set for three minute halves (if this isn't available, do four minute halves), and you need to have the SAME LINEUP you had on the pitch to end the 2nd match.

If this "extra time" match is still tied at the end, skip the "extra time" it offers and go straight to penalties.

Mine and Matt's schedule are basically opposite for the next few days. We're tentatively scheduled for Thu @ 5-515p EST. (I'll confirm that Tue/Wed) If not then, we may need to play it Friday. But those 2 days look better for us.

Arsenal takes the first leg 2-1

Giroud scored in the 52nd minute to break the deadlock, after Juventus dominated the first half and hit the frame three times. Giovinco leveled a few minutes later and got the crucial away goal, but Arteta scored in the 67th minute to give the Gunners the 2-1 win.

In the second leg, Juventus got an amazing goal from about 40 yards out. A long ball was cleared by a charging Szczesny, but the long clearance feel to Arturo Vidal. With the keeper outside the box, Vidal sent a bullet down the pitch. It bounced a few times and just barely tucked inside the post for the 1-0 lead (I wasn't able to record the video but holy shit!!!) Juventus led 1-0 after 20 minutes. Just minutes before halftime, Angelo Ogbonna got on the end of a corner and headed a bullet from 8 yards to make it 2-0. Juventus had a few chances to score but spent much of the 2nd half trying to fight off a smothering Arsenal attack. Gigi Buffon came up with a crucial save in the 90th minute, and the team was able to hang on to win 2-0, giving them the 3-2 aggregate victory.

GGs Jake, I had to earn every bit of that one!!!

PSG defeated Chelsea in the first match 3-2. PSG jumped out to a huge 2-0 lead over Chelsea and completely caught the Chelsea team off guard at Chelsea's own home ground. Chelsea fought back hard and was able to tie the match at 2-2 only to allow Ibrahimovic to come immediately back down the field and put in the go ahead and eventual winner and have PSG take the crucial away leg back to Paris with the win and 3 away goals.

Schurrle 1 Goal - 1 Assist
Lampard 1 Goal
Willian 1 Assist
Cech 9 Saves

For the 2nd match - Chelsea had to travel to Paris to face PSG. WIth the experience the Chelsea coach has, he knew exactly what it would take and all scenarios in which it would take him to advance. Chelsea came out firing early on with what looked like a goal from Hazard inside the opening 5' only to be whistled offside. Within the next 10' of the match, PSG had taken the 1-0 lead over Chelsea with the goal from the outside of the boot curving around Cech from Cavani. Chelsea continued to fight hard this match and around the 33' minute were able to equalize at 1-1 with a goal from David Luiz off of a corner, the keeper defelcted the initial header back out but unfortunately straight back into the path of David Luiz and into the back of the net. The second goal for Chelsea came just before the stroke of halftime with the go ahead goal from Schurrle 2-1. Chelsea knew they needed to win by 2 goals minimum to guarantee their advancement into the next round and came out swinging again. Chelsea entirely locked down the defense and allowed few chances from PSG in the second half but was still wary of what PSG could potentially do. In the end, Fernando Torres was able to net the 3rd and final goal to send Chelsea through to the next round 3-1 this match in Paris and 5-4 on Aggregate.

Torres 1 Goal - 1 Assist
Schurrle 1 Goal - 1 Assist
David Luiz 1 Goal
Azpilicueta 1 Assist
Cech 9 Saves

GG Reign - really enjoyed the games. Wasn't expecting to get dominated the first game.

Sounds awesome. We gotta start broadcasting these, me/Jake's matches were back and forth and nervy the whole way.

Thinking it might be required to broadcast in the next round

No, it will be a blind draw. I will use two other people (one picking teams, one picking numbers) to put it together. Team who had most points in group stage will be home team.

EDIT: If ManCity wins v Barcelona, I will actually have to split the teams up (Madrid would play either Juventus or Chelsea; and City would play the other) to avoid rematches from group stage.
