Re: College Hoops Thread - 2014
I haven't paid too much attention to CBB this year and haven't made it down to a Bearcats game yet (normally hit up 4-5 a year), but I did get to see some of their matchup with Louisville last night. That team has to be the best example of a team that plays beyond their talent and grinds out wins. In the few games I've watched on tv, they are always smaller than their opponent, but they seem to play like they are the bigger and stronger team. They are likely to be exposed in the NCAA tournament because there is no offensive variety at all. But it's good to see them winning regular season games. I have to give Cronin some credit for sticking to his guns. I don't think he's ever going to be mistaken for a great coach, but he gets a lot out of the talent he recruits. (Huggins was very similar in that regard) It will be interesting to see how the team develops over the next 2-3 seasons as well, because he's starting to add some guys with a little more strength and I think he's found 2 quality youngsters in Caupain and Johnson that potentially could make a solid backcourt for the next 3 seasons to go with the stronger frontcourt that is on the way.

At this point, I'm more optimistic about the future of IU football than I am IU basketball.

People are figuring out that he's always going to spin to the left and finish with the left. He has to learn another move or learn to finish w the right hand, or it doesn't matter a lick how much talent he has. You can have all the skill in the world, but if the opponent always knows what you're going to do, they're just gonna wait and strip you when you make that spin move.
Good news about all of this is that the twins are likely coming back, which sets us up for a run next year like we had in 11-12 (albeit no Anthony Davis). They keep saying this team will pick it up like the 10-11 team did, but that team had Brandon Knight (who was ice-cold in the final seconds) and Jorts suddenly improved in the last month (but he was a senior). I just don't see much for this team, unless they suddenly get their crap together, beyond a Sweet 16, depending on the matchups. This team has all the talent to win the title, but none of the heart or desire to do so. Major disappointment.

S14: N Texas 7-1
S15: Wake 8-5
S16-21: Washington 9-4, 10-3, 8-5, 9-4, 7-6, 6-7
S22: Ohio 8-5
S23: ECU 12-2
S24-26: Kentucky 8-5, 5-7, 5-7
Career: 102-61

Duke/Cuse was a good game, but man do I hate how the calls slant toward the home team so severely at times.

We're going to have to find out exactly what that guy said but if it's anything other than the "N word" or something very, very personal about Smart or his family, Smart just cost himself several million dollars.shel311 wrote:

Cowboys Radio Network analyst says he heard Marcus Smart tell his coaches that Texas Tech fan called Smart the N-word.

I hate you. My brother set me up! I didn't think I'd have to screen Johnnys sources, but looking back I should have known better.
