Seattle is freaking ridiculous. Shutting down NOLA with basically their 2 and 3 DBs out. Im impressed.

Possibly the worst in seen the saints play since Brees joined the team. .

I'm curious to know what Ed Hoculi meant when they threw that flag and he said the was no penalty for holding since the QB ran the ball. What?
i didnt see the play but im guessing defensive holding gets negated on running plays?

well i googled "can you get called for defensive holding on a run play?" and im not finding much that says you can. Besides, i dont get why as a defender you could be called for holding on a run play. What does that help? im holding a WR and the QB runs with it, I cant make a tackle while holding him keeping me out of the play.

Im not gonna look much more as i just took a guess. plus, couldnt care less if Gruden was confused, dude thought Cam newton was in the NFL when he coached.

They can definitely call holding on a running play. If a defensive lineman pulls down the offensive lineman that just blocked him, that can open a hole for a linebacker or safety to move in for a tackle and prevent the o-lineman from making a secondary block. It is rarely called, but I've seen it before.

theres no holding penalty 5 yards off the line of scrimmage so i dont think this is true. Besides, whats the difference between me grabbing a OL and falling to the ground, or me just cut blocking a OLineman and we both fall to the ground? same hole for the LB/S.

It was a Seattle offensive linemen who they called for holding on a Wilson scramble.

Forgot I posted that. Yea, not sure why it was assumed to be defensive holding.

But they waved it off and Hoculi said almost word for word, "there is no holding since the QB ran the ball"

I'm sure there's a plausible explanation, but I surely don't know what it is.

Did they say or show who it was on? If it was on a receiver that was blocking versus running a route it could have been perceived as a hold on a passing play.

I've never heard of a defenseman cut blocking an offensive lineman.

It's a dirty tactic to take out pulling lineman. Against the rules...

That's not cut blocking, that's what you said it was submarine to cause a pile up. They are different. Cutting a guy is going for their legs. When it is a penalty on the defense is when a lineman is running on a pull block and the defensive player goes low for the knees to take the lineman out intentionally.

While you're in there, find where a hold is a hold unless the QB decides to run the ball, then it's not a hold.

Thanks.

Not sure which of those it would satisfy, maybe A or B or something and Hoculi just didn't fully explain it.

I unfortunately was unable to watch the game. Could have been a point of attack play and it was far away from the play. If the play would have been a pass play and would have affected the defenses ability to make a sack or something like that it would have stayed. Not sure though not seeing the play.
