Fulham owner Mohamed Al Fayed has sold Fulham FC to Jacksonville Jaguars owner Shahid Khan.
Six of the twenty clubs in the Barclays Premier League are owned by Americans, including two clubs (ManU and Fulham) owned by people who also own NFL franchises in the state of Florida.
Jacksonville plays in London at Wembley Stadium each of the next four seasons.

Re: Soccer discussion thread
Clint Dempsey is moving to Seattle Sounders. I don't understand this at all on his part.

Re: Soccer discussion thread
I saw that yesterday and was confused as well. Why move back to the MLS? "Hey, let me go play inferior competition each week!"LetsGoPeay wrote:Clint Dempsey is moving to Seattle Sounders. I don't understand this at all on his part.

Re: Soccer discussion thread
I understand him wanting to leave Spurs. He wasn't a first choice starter and they brought in guys that will play ahead of him. But why not seek out a move to another BPL club, even if it is a step down from Tottenham, and still play against elite competition week in and week out? It makes no sense.BIGmike wrote:I saw that yesterday and was confused as well. Why move back to the MLS? Re: Soccer discussion thread
maybe money? maybe homesick? a lot of guys just don't like playing in foreign countries and if he makes the same here, why not. to plenty of athletes this is a job more than a passion. Plus if he wants the passion, he still has the USMNTBIGmike wrote:I saw that yesterday and was confused as well. Why move back to the MLS? Re: Soccer discussion thread
he was getting 7.2 from tottenham. so he's getting a slight raise.
Re: Soccer discussion thread
I'm thinking Bale might be gone. Without Bale, Tottenham is a mid table team. He also may be fighting for playing time on a team that is a non-elite Premier league team. The thought that a mid-table Premier league team is that much better than a top tier US team is wrong. Any MLS team could fight off relegation in any top flight league and maybe finish 8th or so. I am believer that if youre not good enough to play on an elite team, no reason to go abroad anymore.DRiccio21 wrote:definitely seems odd, maybe he cares about development of MLS?
Re: Soccer discussion thread
did you mean to say any top MLS team could fight off relegation? or any MLS team?
seems counter-intuitive to think the worst teams in the MLS wouldn't be relegated in a major league.
but my knowledge of the game is pretty basic so my opinion is pretty worthless on the topic

i would say a mls playoff team... so not the absolute garbage teams.DRiccio21 wrote:did you mean to say any top MLS team could fight off relegation? or any MLS team?

Not true at all. And the USMNT needs it to keep improving.
This was a smart move for Dempsey. It allows him to actually PLAY now, he wasn't gonna get to play much at Spurs. Moving to a lesser team would take away the whole reason he left Fulham (Champions League). Now, he gets to be THE new face of MLS and be in-form and confident come WC2014.
Btw, Real Madrid and Everton play 8pm est on Fox.

Re: Soccer discussion thread
It's not just that... he's going to Seattle which has an amazing atmosphere for MLS. I get it. He's going to be a rockstar for them, in a nation that is started to develop. I think it's great for him and great for MLS.

Re: Soccer discussion thread
when I was in Seattle I was shocked to see how popular Seattle MLS team was. bars featured them on their windows, people were talking about the teams games when I was out. i was shocked by it.
also, this little int'l tourney going on semi and finals are in Miami ... i'm assuming these are backups playing, am i wrong? should i be getting tix to this since the finals are here?

Pretty sure you'll see some big names. I know Chelsea had Hazard playing in Indianapolis.DRiccio21 wrote:when I was in Seattle I was shocked to see how popular Seattle MLS team was. bars featured them on their windows, people were talking about the teams games when I was out. i was shocked by it.

Re: Soccer discussion thread
Yeah, the first squads play at least a half. Ronaldo put in a full hour tonight, Ozil played 80+ minutes, etc.
