Post by RanDawg »

Just out of curiosity . . . of those of us that teach:

How long have you been teaching?
What grade do you teach?
What subject?
Do you coach (If so, what sport(s))?

*If something like this has been posted before . . . please forgive me.

14th year
3rd grade
all subjects-easy ones like double digit addition :)
no coaching

New principal this year is implementing an approach used in Uncommon Schools and Teach Like A Champion. It's a drastic change but a good one.

Started our fourth week yesterday. This year has been very interesting. We've started a 1:1 technology initiative. Every kid in the school has a laptop computer and we've gone almost entirely paperless on everything. I''m really enjoying it and I'd even say it's reinvigorated me a bit. I get things graded in half the time it used to take me and I'm able to provide better and more detailed feedback more quickly. Last year if you saw me sitting around doing nothing (probably on the NDL boards) I was procrastinating. This year it's because I've got everything done.

All private schools in California went this route but with iPads. I think it is a great idea but unfortunately companies like Dunder Mifflin/Sabre will slowly die :(
