Re: 2012 College Football Thread
Just another coach who leaves before they come down on the team for things going on during his tenure, ho hum:

The NCAA is such a sham of an organization.

Free Miami!!
No clue how they get away with this kind of stuff. Can't they battle these sanctions in court or something?

Re: 2012 College Football Thread
While I'm ranting, this one makes me even angrier:
http://aol.sportingnews.com/ncaa-footba ... ips-heupel
Stoops makes $200K every 2 or 3 weeks and he's going to talk about getting $200K in services over 5 years, the nerve lol.
http://aol.sportingnews.com/ncaa-footba ... ips-heupel
Really Stoops? Really? They get paid handsomely? So if OU offered Stoops 5 years worth of education for his services, he would accept the "handsome" offer, or would he goe elsewhere for another $4mil/year?“You know what school would cost here for non-state guy? Over $200,000 for room, board and everything else,” Stoops said. “That’s a lot of money. Ask the kids who have to pay it back over 10-15 years with student loans. You get room and board, and we’ll give you the best nutritionist, the best strength coach to develop you, the best tutors to help you academically, and coaches to teach you and help you develop. How much do you think it would cost to hire a personal trainer and tutor for 4-5 years?
“I don’t get why people say these guys don’t get paid. It’s simple, they are paid quite often, quite a bit and quite handsomely.”

Stoops is right, but he sure did a poor job of not sounding like an ass. And it will be a complete farce if Oregon gets taken down and Auburn doesn't. And I hope Miami gets reamed
, sure NCAA screwed up the investigation, but it's a joke to call the Canes victims in this.

With the way it was handled I am just saying how can you ever get a fair deal out of an investigation or sanctions?
I'm sure if it was fsu you would be crying like a baby

Not you, but they have called them that on ESPN several times. As for fairness, it is naive to even wish for it. The best you can hope for is for there to be some consequences when schools get caught. And yes if this was 10 years ago I would be crying over it if it was the Noles, but at this point I'm likely jaded enough that I'd believe them to be guilty of whatever they were accussed of. I'd still be cheering for the team, but just as loudly calling for the heads of those in charge. Honestly it amazes me that Miami hasn't dumped the people connected to this and moved on.Cnasty wrote:Who said anything abou being a victim?

Re: 2012 College Football Thread
Most everyone is gone that was involved besides the president of the school. All are other former coaches that did what shel pointed out in the Oregon case and fled. They also have done their own self imposed banning to provide their own punishment. They are far from innocent as I'm sure most of what is said is true but the NCAA is a sham and if they bring down a huge punishment after the self imposed penalties and the way they botched this case it would be a joke.fsupenguin wrote:Not you, but they have called them that on ESPN several times. And like we all have said and I think we agree, every single school does it but we got caught. Not to the extent maybe as Miami likes to party, but still.

And this is why the whole thing is a sham and as long as players aren't paid, it has no chance of getting any better.Cnasty wrote:And like we all have said and I think we agree, every single school does it

Johnny Football alone was estimated to bring in something like $37million to A&M last year. Let's give the AD and coach multi-million dollar raises, and hey Johnny Football, you can make the same thing you made your freshman year, enjoy your nutritionist and tutor, that should cover you for the $37mil.

HOw'd I know you would be the first to make that argument? People who work in sweatshops know what they're getting into as well...
And don't go crazy thinking I'm making a direct comparison of the 2, the larger point is, them knowing what they're getting into is irrelevant to whether it's right or wrong.
If you have aspirations to play in the NFL, there is no other alternative. When you have no other alternative, that's when it's easiest for someone like the NCAA to hoard billions of dollars and disperse to everyone but you, because what else are you going to do? Nothing, that's what.

well there is a business opportunity. lets start an alternative
we'd make a fucking killing.
the problem we'll run into is they have to wait 3 years

And FWIW, maybe not because of the paying kids issue, that is going to happen one day. It may be years and years from now, but a big time conference or something will start a movement and eventually break away from the NCAA if the NCAA keeps up with the status quo, and there's no reason to think they won't.
