Nobody was watchin the games at work, so I changed the channel real fast. Now guys are enthralled and watching that wouldn't have let me change it had they known ahead of time what I was doing.

Re: Soccer discussion thread
Well it was sloppy and a mess but whatever we won.
Costa Rica called the game a disgrace and is protesting... blah blah blah. Yet they send us to synthetic pitches in 95 degrees with 95 humidity and have kickoff at 230 in the afternoon. Everyone plays to their advantages, just how it is.
Other shock of yesterday was Spain at home drew with Finland 1-1. Spain had 84% of possession and Finland really only had the one chance but made the most of it. The World Cup is really starting to take form (except Africa). Here is who looks good.
World Cup Outlook:
Asia (4.5):
Japan, South Korea, Australia all look good. Iran and Uzbekistan will battle it out for the last automatic slot.
Europe (13):
Italy, Germany, Netherlands, Switzerland, Russia, Bosnia and France are all locks at this point it seems. The winner of Belgium and Croatia will get a slot while the loser heads to the playoffs. Montenegro will probably hold off England for the last automatic because England loves giving away points.
Predictions:
Automatic: Italy, Germany, Netherlands, Switzerland, Russia, Bosnia, France, Belgium, Montenegro
Playoffs: Croatia, Bulgaria, Sweden, Romania, Portugal, Greece, England, Spain....
-means we'll get playoffs that will be likely be Spain vs Greece, England vs Sweden, Portugal vs Romania, Croatia vs Bulgaria.
Africa (5):
Complete fucking clusterfuck still... Egypt, Zambia and Tunisia look good though.
CONCACAF (3.5):
New Zealand needed a 90th minute goal to beat New Caledonia... they are awful. So you can pretty much bank that 4 teams will make it from CONCACAF. Honduras looks good, Mexico will figure it out. USA will too. Probably leaves 1 spot for Costa Rica/Jamaica/Panama. Should be a fun hex.
CONMEBOL (5 + Brazil):
Fifth in South America will kill 5th in Asia. Argentina, Colombia and Ecuador are locks at this point. Uruguay, Venezuela, Chile and Peru will battle for the last 2 slots.

2nd day of WC qualifying for the weekend.
Asia is getting clear although Japan had a chance to become the 2nd team to qualify for the WC after Brazil, they lost to Jordan. In June they need to either not lose to Australia at home or have Iraq not beat Oman and they will be the first team to qualify.
Africa is a clusterfuck as usual.
The big game today in Europe is France is home vs Spain. If France wins they will all but qualify and send Spain to the playoff. If they at least tie they will still be in massive control of the group.
South America continues its league. Argentina, Ecuador and Colombia look safe to qualify.
USA vs Mexico tonight. In Mexico City. This is a big one and I can't wait for it. Costa Rica hosts Jamaica and Panama hosts Honduras.

Estadio Azteca will be having "Free Bag of Urine Night" tonight. Every American at the match is eligible to get a free bag of urine courtesy of Mexicans, any of them. In keeping with the Mexican people's love of surprise gift giving, American patrons should expect to be showered, literally, with their gift at any second upon stepping within 100 yards of Azteca.Cnasty wrote:Mexican hospitality to the USA at its finest on display tonight!

During the Jamaica match in Mexico City the Jamaica away fans (about 15 or so) were in one section group completely surrounded shoulder to shoulder in police officers in full riot gear with shields facing out. I don't think they were even allowed to go to the concessions or anything lol.Cnasty wrote:Mexican hospitality to the USA at its finest on display tonight!

Ahead of the 2010 World Cup, the Americans lost 2-1 in a game that kicked off in the heat of the day and during which Yahoo! Sports witnessed one incident where a fan swilled beer into his mouth, stuck his fingers down his throat, deliberately puked the contents into his cup and then hurled it in the direction of Landon Donovan.

There's a section in San Siro that is completely surrounded by high glass walls and has its own concessions and bathrooms for the visitors. It was hilarious to see it.Uuaww wrote:During the Jamaica match in Mexico City the Jamaica away fans (about 15 or so) were in one section group completely surrounded shoulder to shoulder in police officers in full riot gear with shields facing out. I swear there is like a switch for Chicharito when he plays for United and when he plays for Mexico.
When he plays for United, he works hard and is hardnosed.
When he plays for Mexico, he dives and flops like a fish. It's like night and day and it's making it hard to root for him when he returns to Old Trafford after watching him play for El Tri.
