NDL Next 25 (Week 6)

Post by iRoccafella »

Image

Our Week 6 edition features some movers and slumpers. Some once proud programs find themselves on the outside looking in, and have their work cut out for them to get back in to the coveted Top 25.

Image#26 Brigham Young (186) - Real no-brainer here given that they made the Media Poll this past block. Solid wins for ICE, but with a loss to Utah St in the upcoming block, I don't see them staying up this high next block. Look for the Cougars to bounce back after Block 5 and rebound for a strong finish. Trending Down

ImageWashington State (116), - Another team that received some attention from the media polls, WSU has lost their perch atop the division with a loss to Stanford, but coupled with a close loss to Oregon, and some very winnable games in the near future, I don't see Coach Coug dropping too far out of sight before a showdown with UCLA. Trending Flat

ImageColorado State (96), - The 4th red hot BCS buster is looking to jump in to the party. They've already cleared their next block of games with dominating wins, and doesn't have any big matchups until the final block showdown against Boise. Depending on who loses, CSU and Block are almost a lock for the Top 25 next block. Trending: Up

ImageSouth Florida (72) - AJ is still getting some love thus far. They have a lost off in the distance to UConn, but depending on their open block, they may or may not move anywhere. Trending: Flat

ImageOregon (59) - Didn't think we'd ever see Oregon here again given their history. With another shocking loss to then winless Washington, even a win against the Ranked Arizona St won't be enough to get the Ducks back in to the Top 25. They'll need to make a run and take the division before the coaches look back to Oregon seriously. Trending: Down

ImageWest Virginia (53) - Talented had both Byes early and as a result hasn't had much attention thus far this season. With 4 games open and only one loss to a Tough Texas team, the Moutaineers are primed to make some noise in the polls in the coming weeks. Trending: Up

ImageMississippi (49) - Coach Thabs seems to be grounded back in the cruel reality of the SEC. After a shellacking from ND, Mississippi has dropped 3 straight conference games. It doesn't get any easier, with maybe 2 winnable games left. Lucky for Thabs, he's already hit his win goal, and can simply play for next year. Trending: Down

ImagePenn State (30) - Not much has changed for Noley and the Pedos, but conference play will tell the tale. After going 3-1 in conference play, the Nittany Lions need to turn up the heat soon before the going gets too tough. Trending: Flat

ImageMichigan (21) - BigRy's Wolverines must be living off pure notoriety at this point. They have a huge hole to dig out of to even sniff the top 25, and if not careful may end up in that other column... Trending: Down

ImageKansas State (19) - Another slow starter, but K-State has rattled off three in a row, and has two credible games left before a huge showdown with Superjake and Okie St. I see them getting a bump, but they'll need to make some noise against Okie St before they hit the top 25, barring some losses. Trending: Up

ImageMinnesota (10) - 3 Winnable games? Check. Got the curbcheck from Wisky out the way? Check. One ranked team left on the schedule? Check. Minnesota can make a run, but any other losses and they're done for. Trending: Flat

ImageNorth Carolina (9) - UNC got some love early on, but hasn't played any games to get any notice. Oracle controls his own destiny right now, but the polls are a longshot, and don't look to favorably on inactivity. Trending: Flat

ImageRutgers (9) - Well... They are part of the undefeateds. That counts right? This is way too small of a sample size to tell at this point. Trending: Unknown

ImageNC State (8) - We all know homie is a boss for keeping this site afloat. However I'm a firm believer of games needing to be played to maintain ones rank... Trending: Unknown

ImageMississippi State (7) - Bearass and Miss St get my vote for NDL Next 25 Sleeper of the block! 3 straight wins against solid opponents. However shit is about to get real. I see votes coming Miss St's way that have gone to Mississippi prior to their slide. The good (or bad news) is that Bearass only has Bama to deal with this block, so that may not hurt his chances too much should he get enough votes. Trending: Up

ImageHouston (6) - Well they have the gimme against the Lobos, but conference play will make or break RanDawg and the Cougars. Also playing games in general would help. Trending: Flat

ImageSan Diego State (6) - SDSU has potential, but there can only be so many BCS busters in one conference, and their presence is dwarfed by Nevada, CSU & Boise. With games still to go against two of those three, they have a chance however. Trending: Flat

ImageSouthern Miss (5) - What once looked promising, now is a fight for relevancy. ECU & Marshall will tell us if So Miss is for real or not. Trending: Down

ImageCentral Florida (5) - With 4 relatively ugly losses, not seeing where these guys sneak in barring a table run and and a conference championship. Odds are long at best. Trending: Down

ImageNebraska (5) - Even now after the brutal block against Wisky & Ohio St, Nebraska still gets love from the coaches. If he can turn it around and take care of the more manageable part of the schedule, Nebraska could be one of those sneaky late season top 25ers as the wannabes drop off. Trending: Flat

ImageTexas (4) - Texas remains in a state of no room for error, and the games aren't getting any easier. Can VVV get it together? We won't know until another game is played. I'm not gonna count the longhorns out yet, and apparently there are still a few Coaches who agree. Texas can still control it's own destiny with so few games played. Trending: Flat

California (3) - A hellacious couple of blocks open with only one gimme. Cal will need help and some upsets to get in the polls at this point given their recent momentum Trending: Down

ImageTexas Tech (3) - 2 losses against quality opponents certainly won't hamper Coach TJ's chances, and the Win against the Sooners will certainly get attention. Trending Up

ImageLouisville (3) - Coach Razorback has 1 ranked team and 2 potentially hot teams down the stretch, and is out to make some noise in the Big East. Timely wins could boost Louisville before what's shaping up to be a showdown for the Big East crown against UConn. Trending: Up

ImageArizona (3) - Zona has won 4 out of the last 5, and has momentum, the tough matchups against USC & UCLA will determine where the Wildcats stand before their block of cupcakes and the all important Rivalry game against Az St. They could be a candidate for one of the late season Top 25 3 loss teams. Trending: Up
