Says the guy reminding us about his thoughts on America. Every time you bash America, I think it's pretty relevant to point out how you have said multiple times that you wanna live here.

Why would you wanna live here?

Apparently in Shel's world, people cant change their minds. I only wanted to move to experience nfl/ncaa, but since Buffalo is on a fast track to Toronto, i dont really need to move anymore.

you can only exceed the slot amount by a certain multiple. I believe it changes for every round. So if my slot amount is $3M and the multiple is 2x then the maximum I can offer is $6M even if I have $9M in my draft budget. Dont know why and dont how to find the multiple or if it is the same for every team or round.

So what the thread about? All I got is spending money on a band is stupid, shel likes to feel safe, brett doesnt want the military to have guns (just shel), and Nick hates America / loves the American culture.

I can start a war in here (believe I have, actually) calling the education system the most purposely corrupt part of our country and nothing is close. From the substitute on up to the DoE, it is the most wasteful and useless system we have while also costing the participants the most.

It turns my stomach.

I like prosecutors more than I like school administrators.

I am sorta with you.

But, if you think about it, how many submarines could wipe out this planet? Four? I get shit on when I ask this, but for what do we need a ground force? Invading places for oil? I have a tremendous Libertarian approach to it. Keep our military to the point where we can immediately eliminate any domestic threat but no more.

But nobody will cut defense spending - let alone departments - lest they be seen as weak on terror.

I loathe this statement. The empires that fell, they fell because of brute force. Brute force that came because they were often connected to the nations they had conquered/fucked with/taunted. The number one reason why America is what it is is because they are in the Western Hemisphere. That is reason number fucking one.

The American empire will fall when Canada and Mexico become military superpowers and/or Russia picks up and moved all of their shit to the uninhabitable east parts of their nation ... to invade Canada first.

Wow, a lot has happened in this thread since my last post. I hate to say I have read a lot of ignorant comments. If you are offended please look here for the definition of ingorant. And by all means just because I have quoted you am I not calling you ignorant or your comments ignorant......
brett11253 wrote:we spend more than twice the amount of all other countries combined. Gotta love it and Dick Cheneys trying to get even more defense spending. I guess I would too when I owned all the business that profited from war.
I am pretty positive Mr Dick Cheney does not own one company, he was a CEO for Haliburton from 1995-2000, that profited from War. He had to step down before the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq even started...so not sure how he profited from war when he was in office and wasn't the CEO at that time. We need to spend twice as much money as all the other countries because the other countries refuse to fight their own wars or are incapable of doing so. You may not think we need to fight those wars but if we do not fight them there it empowers our enemies to bring the fight to us (9-11).

OracleHCR wrote:From your perspective and only having to worry about your day to day life I can understand how you feel. Growing up a military brat and being around the military and seeing the world, I dont think enough is spent. $388 mil on the band is really out there but as far as defense spending we need a lot more.
I agree, and I think we need to spend more money on smart weapons that can be used more than once. I hate that we spend millions of dollars for a tomahawk missle just because its a precision weapon. We can spend less money by dropping a 500 pound bomb that is laser guided for much less than launching a tomahawk missle. I think we are heading in the right direction by using and developing unmanned vehicles. (and I have a soft spot for this since I am in the field).

shel wrote:How much money does it take to obtain that? Shit if I know, but I don't think any of us can say with any certainty that cutting that budget in half keeps us just as safe as it does now, can we?
I would hate to live in a country where the assumption of cutting the budget in half would keep us as safe as we are now.

nick wrote:dude ate a guys face off in Florida. Hundreds of people are murdered every day. Oklahoma city bombing, 9/11, amongst other shit, and you feel completely safe in America?

America is "safe" from international warfare, too bad America is far from safe from internal warfare.
At least we live in a country where people can make a free choice to do stupid shit. Some countries if you even talk somewhat negatively about the government can get you locked up or even killed. I'll take our pot smoking zombies.

xLiQx wrote:I get this feeling we need to spend more cause we as a country feel we need to me in "more"peoples problems other than our own. IT FEELS as if we are the big brother to nearly any country who needs military assitance, along with food, medical attention..and we are so giving....It's hard to argue with anyone that we need to focus more on the problems we have in our own country, and maybe less on problems in others?
I think we need to go back to an internalist country where we worry about our own needs rather than others problems. But we cannot do that because we are the "Greatest" country in the world.

Wasted Memory wrote:Also, before we get to far into the whole "we don't need better guns or bigger ships" you also need to realize that a lot of this defensive spending is also going into cyber warfare. It's been a while since I've seen the figures from back in my days up at Fort Meade, but the US is constantly being hacked by other countries. It's not cheap nor easy to protect all of our infrastructure from that....
Where you a CTR? while at Fort Meade? What did you do, I had a chance to go work there at one point but I tried to avoid that place like the plague. I was in Intel before switching jobs. And yes cyber warfare is huge.

xLiQx wrote:I am not trying to speak for other people, but when I see "cutthe budget, less spending" I think a lot of them are also refering to cut costs by not sending troops to certain situations, keeping them home,I dont think they want to completly get rid of the military and everything they do for us so we can play NCAA.
I'd rather go to Afghanistan and have them come in droves from all the muslim countries to fight us there than them get stronger and more sophisticated to bring the fight to America.

brett11253 wrote:you're the problem. you need 388 billion to be safe because you piss the world off. Other, smarter countries dont need to waste money on this shit. They put it where its of good use. We are 17th in science and 15th in the "American" dream. We arnt even the best in moving up socially and financially anymore. We are a fucking joke of a country and if you think we need to WASTE all this money for your little sorry ass to feel safe buy a fucking gun yourself. We owe china tons of money and all we do is threaten them or call them names and tell them how to run their country. If someone were to owe America the billions we owe china and then shit talk America they woulda been bombed to peieces, We would have invaded them quicker than you could have taken a drunk piss. We're already at war without congress's approval. So idk what it even means to be American anymore. We don't even follow our own rules.
On September 14, 2001 bill House Joint Resolution 64 passed in the House. The totals in the House of Representatives were: 420 Ayes, 1 Nay and 10 Not Voting. The Nay was Barbara Lee, D-CA.
So I am sorry Brett, I have nothing against you but when I said Ignorant comments this is what I was talking about.

And we piss the world off because we have a pretty good life going here. We are free and people (other governments) are envious in my opinion. If you think we are a joke of a country what have you done to better your community? What have you done for your country?

I like the fact we have the insanely powerful military that we do. However, and I always HAVE to ask this, why should I be thankful for servicemen? Were they drafted? It isn't that I have a negative opinion about them; not at all, I love that we have legions of killing machines at our disposal. But, I always have a hard time rationalizing why I should be outwardly effusive with my praise of them.

They chose to do this. Some of the time, yes, reluctantly as that was the best path for them at this time. I didn't go to the Air Force despite putting up a score so high that the recruiter came to my house because I didn't think it was the right choice for me. Looking back, it was the wrong choice; I should have gone. My life would be so much better (probably) if I went.

And what I find is that most of the comments made back to me when I say this is all about money. Money, money, money, money, and money; while enlisted and when a veteran ... usually from the same people who rebuke me when I claim that money is the most important thing in this world; they call me shallow and materialistic.

So, sorry if this offends, it just doesn't add up.
