Also, just found this....

This was someone online that had random PS3 issues....

I opened the firewall ports for the tcp and the udp so that it will go through all the possible ports you can find the ports on the PSN web site.
I also have my ps3 set for the 100baseT instead of auto. all the rest is auto.
This is a wired set up i also use cat6 wire.
This is not a complete fix since its not the u-verse all the time it seems since the latest update for the PS3 it has been frezing up my PS3 to where it has to be powered down.

I am just posting stuff I can find so that we have it easy to access later to try if need be.

Also, if your router has UpNp, enable it if it is not. This can make a big difference.

Something else I just found...
I have no idea if this would help with playing games online..or if it would even work to play a game online, however:

I found this online:
After 2 days of agony, I finally figured out a way to fix the Slow Download problem off the PSN that some people have been reporting. The solution is simple.

On your PS3, set up a new CUSTOM connection. Configure everything as it should be, and when you get to the DNS Server option, put MANUAL and input the following as your Primary and Secondary DNS servers:

Primary DNS: 8.8.8.8
Secondary DNS: 8.8.4.4

Those are Google's DNS servers.

This FIXED my problem almost completely. Went from 5000 minutes left to download patch 1.05, to about 30 minutes total.
I hope this helps anyone still having problems.

Someone else said this:
for the DNS enter these two addresses 208.67.222.222 and 208.67.220.220

After reading a bunch of stuff online last night and this morning at work...

I am not sure that any of the remedies we try will fix issues like Shel is having.

From what I am reading, it may just be a problem with the modems/routers that ISP's are giving out.
Not saying they are bad, items like your computer still work fine, but for whatever reason, they have issues with gaming systems.

One person was having the same issue as you Shel and he posted that he purchased the Netgear RangeMax dual band wireless N router/modem and my connection to PSN has been flawless.

For issues like UC is having, I sent him instructions with how to put his modem/router in bridge mode and hook up his own router behind it.
Hopefully that will help.

For Shel, I will work with him a little tonight, but it may come down to asking Time Warner for a straight modem and not one with a router built in. We will see.

Modem Router combos are crap. Get a modem. Get a router. Success.

After reading through all of this and bearing in mind that I've had disconnect issues this first few days I went in to my PS3 to set up a DMZ and make sure UPnP was enabled. I ran a connection test on this before that and noticed my download speed was around 8Mbps and upload was around 4Mbps.

I then went in and set up a DMZ for the PS3 and turned on UPnP which was disabled prior. After setting everything up I did the connection test, but now my download speed is around 4Mbps and my upload is at 564kbps. Is this normal or acceptable for online play?

I would reset to stock, then static ip the ps3, and then dmz the static ip, and do the port forwarding too.

Left UPnP on and turned off DMZ. That got me all the way through 4 quarters and 2 OT's. :D I'll try again in the morning and see if it's still good.

Just FYI, but if you DMZ your PS3's IP Address, you should not have to setup port forwarding.
When you DMZ something, you are giving it a direct link to the internet. It is opening up everything for that one IP address that you put in there.

Here is a short list I came up with for now:

Random Disconnect issues
1. Turn off Media Server through your PS3
2. Check Your NAT Type, if 3, fix it. If 2 or 1, you are good.
http://www.pregamelobby.com/ps3-ps2-pso ... r-ps3.html
3. Is uPnP available, if so, turn it on.
4. DMZ – Assign a static IP address to your PS3, then input that IP address into the DMZ section in your router settings.
5. Port Forwarding – If you DMZ your PS3, you should not have to port forward, but here they are if you want to try it:
TCP: 80, 443, 5223
UDP: 5223, 3478, 3479, 3658

If all of this fails, it could be that the modem/router combo is not compatible with gaming.
Ask your ISP for a straight modem and add your own router.

And I would do these 1 step at a time and then try playing a game and see what happens.

I know dmz-ing means you ought not need to port forward...but, given the situation, I figured it couldn't hurt, worst case,
it'd just be redundant.

Enabling the UPnP on the router and then the PS3 seems to have cleared it up for me. Think I went 6 straight game being disconnected before I enabled. Haven't had any problems since....excuse me now while I go knock on wood. :?

It's probably your connection.

We'll probably disconnect ten times this season and have to get simmed.
