can't get on for online play???

so I can't get on....again....but my buddy is online now as I can see it through my friends list....WTF....is it my system? if so this shit is going back soon....what could it be? it just loads and then a dumb message comes up that says the server is not available at this time. I get that here and there. I back out to main menu then try. That does the trick for me.

yeah this has happened ONLY since I have downloaded the elite package and the new maps....I have tried 4 times to get online and 2 of them I haven't been able to connect. It is strange because my buddy who lives 10 mins from me hasn't had any issues, but he doesn't have the new maps. Can I uninstall them?

It happens occasionally for me as well….backing out usually works and I do not have the map packs either.

this sucks....I just finished a game of NCAA and watched a movie on netflix....so I think well maybe the server might be good???nope....still gives me the same message....I'm on spring break....I wanted to shoot some people....damn

ok so does anyone else have any ideas on what is up with this...was on this AM around 9-11 am with no issues...now its 430 and have been trying for about 20 mins and can't connect...I tried googling it but nothing really stands out for me...I can play online for ncaa and it says I am signed in to psn...and watch netflix etc on my ps3....I don't think it is my internet connection because of all the other reasons I listed...I don't believe it is my system its brand new and have no issues with other games etc....HELP

No just my house. It's a wired connection but I get the same results with wireless connection also.. No other issues with lag or connectivity on other items tagged

SO, I found this info...but hell this is like a different language to me....why would I have to do this if I have never had issues before???nothing has changed....is this as hard as it sounds?????


First you should check http://www.callofduty.com/mw3/status for the status of the Call of Duty servers as the servers may be down for maintenance.

If you are having a problem connecting to an online game, check the following:
Network Troubleshooting:

Disable any firewall or security features within your router.
Set port forwarding on your router to the IP address of your Playstation 3. This game uses ports 81, 3074, 3075, 3478, 3479 (UDP) and ports 80, 443, 3074, 5223 (TCP). For voice / video chat and online game play, direct communication with other PS3™ systems is used for data transmission during voice / video chat and online gaming. The port number used for this is UDP: 3658
Place your Playstation 3 into the DMZ of your router.
Disconnect your router and try the game. If it works regularly at this point something about your router may not be completely compatible with the specific needs of this game. Check with your router manufacturer for additional steps that may need to be done to resolve the issue you are having.
NOTE: If setting port forwarding or DMZ helps your connection issue, you may want to assign your PlayStation 3 a static IP address within your home network. This can help to ensure that the configurations you made do not need to done again.

NOTE: Many broadband Internet modems are coming with routing capabilities built in. Please contact your Internet service provider to determine if your Internet modem has an integrated router. If it does, they should be able to assist you with the steps above for setting up your router.

You can find more information on configuring shared connections and forwarding ports for your specific router at http://www.portforward.com. Please be aware that like a firewall we cannot actively support using shared connections to play online.

Moderate and Strict NAT types may have issues connecting to online matches. You may get the error "Notice - The game session is no longer available." If you do then enabling UPnP, forwarding port 3074, or placing your Xbox in your router's DMZ may resolve this issue. Please consult your router documentation for instructions on how to do this.

Once you have verified that your network setup is not the cause of the issue you can try the following:


Try connecting to a different server. Some servers may have other players connected to them that you do not have an optimal connection with. To do so back out to the main menu and select Multiplayer and then attempt to join a game.
Try deleting the PS3 browser cache and the browser's cookies.
