What anonymous doesnt understand or care about is that their activities will always end up hurting the consumer. Dont tell me they care about our safety or our privacy. If they did, they wouldnt have posted the names and addresses of thousands of innocent people. They are just as corrupt as the politicians and the systems they try to destroy. Meanwhile, the innocent consumer is hurt by not being able to use the products they actually paid for and ends up having the cost of additional security passed on to them. Mission accomplished.

They had their shot at doing something worthwhile and helping thousands of people that suffer at the hands of dangerous organizations. Instead they backed down when the cartels threatend to hunt them down. That proves their level of conviction.

The evidence will help those pushing for SOPA and the bill gets passed with full support and little legislation oversight.

There are ways to make changes and there are criminal acts. Anonymous has no idea how to enact change. People dont follow anonimity. They follow leaders.

Also, sony produces a product that is used by millions of customers. They are trying to protect their intellectual property, much of it that they paid to develop.

PSN users dont stand in front of the keyboard blocking anonymous from using their computers. The most they do is say annoying things on online games.

There's the problem--you're reading the face of the bill. That's what Hollywood wants, that's what Congress wants. Read some of the wording and you'll see that it's much much scarier. You think you have freedom of speech? Enjoy it....if SOPA passes, the government can issue an injunction against your website with just the "belief" of there being copyright infringements; ISPs can block people from accessing websites with full immunity, and the people who have their sites blocked/taken down have very little recourse. It would also make it a FEDERAL CRIME to use a proxy like Tor, which I know people use just for safety and security, and for no illegal or theft reasons at all.

I don't support much of what Anonymous does, I'm just privy to some inside information. That said, I somewhat DO support this, and here's why:

Ask 100 people walking down the street what SOPA is, and 95 of them will say it sounds like a body wash.

Ask those same 100 people a question about what happened on Jersey Shore the night before, and they'll give you a 20 minute synopsis including a breakdown of their favorite commercials of the night.

I guarantee you that if something like this happens, more people will realize what this is about and might actually stand up for their rights. There's a reason that groups like this have to take such drastic measures--because 99.999% of this country turn a blind eye to what their government is doing and don't care, they say "let someone else do something about it". Well, the "someone else" is about to, and even though it'll suck for a short time, it just might be what it takes to save us all from a draconian bill passing.

They backed down because they were going to come after the families, acquaintances, etc of anybody who ever even MENTIONED Anonymous; why do you think I went back at that time and deleted every mention I ever made of them?

Things were much more serious than I think anybody realizes. The cartels are murdering people by the dozens every day, there's a difference in collateral damage when comparing "hurting customers" to "having people killed".

As an IT professional, I must implore you to oppose the Stop Online Piracy Act(SOPA) bill. I can tell you that this is a job-killing bill. Worse, this will not stop online piracy. It will, however, greatly hinder internet innovation and drive many jobs and start-up company overseas. With the continued exodus of manufacturing jobs from the United States, it is imperative that the nation exploit its position as a leader in technology; not scare it away. This bill will cause untold harm to our country's ability to expand and profit from the (still) rapidly expanding information technology industry. This industry can provide high paying, low pollution jobs for United States citizens that are desperately needed in the Westchester County and the country itself.

The harm that will be caused by this bill will exponentially exceed and benefits that may come from it and I will not feel comfortable voting for a representative that is so keen on bringing in such damages.
