TRU - Buy 2, Get 1 free next week

Post by sammy33 »

Just a heads up for any interested. With Batman and Ratchet coming out next week, I'll flip a coin between Dark Souls and hockey.

I wish this was next week for Battlefield.

I'm getting Batman for sure but I can't really think of another game, let alone a two.

Buy Batman and two other random games ($60 games). Get gift receipts for all the games. Return (unopened) the games you don't want for stuff you do (like Battelfield, Black-Ops, whatever). I believe many people do this everytime they have the sale. They can't refuse an un-opened return game with a receipt. You don't save any more money than you would if the game you're exchanging for was available at the time of the sale, so you're not cheating Toys R Us out of money, you're just working around the system.

They cannot refuse an un-opened game, however, make sure whatever game you want to return is paid for and not the free one.
If it rings up on the receipt at 0.00 or 0.01, then when you go to return it, you get 0.00 or 0.01 towards another game.

GameStop was really funny about this when I worked there.

Can you pre-order battlefield? If so, include it in your 3 games.

I picked up Batman, Rage and Just Dance 3 for the kids. I was planning on playing one of those games and bringing one back unopened once Uncharted 3 comes out. I'm trying to figure out which one to play and which one to save. I heard Batman was amazing, but I never played the first one, does it matter? Has anyone played either of these yet, which is better?

Batman, to me, is AAA-quality. Just got back from picking up my pre-order. Watched a bud play it last night. So pissed that my PS3 is crapping on me to play it myself  . I'm sure you'd be able to jump without needing to play the first. I'd pm hoos and ask about Rage as it was a game he was looking at. He would have the best insight on that one.

I'm confused by calling it AAA-quality.

Does that mean it is just below par for what a really good game would be (major league quality) or that it is a really good game?

Is there a level above AAA-quality?

I've read two reviews. One said it wasn't quite as good as the first one and one said it was quite possibly the best Batman game that anyone could imagine getting made. I think the second favored the open-world aspect compared to the first game (which wasn't open-world).

I'm debating buying Batman and/or Gears 3, but I don't know the third game I'd get, and they'd just sit around waiting for me to play them like Uncharted 2, Batman AA, Fallout 3, Bioshock 1, Bioshock 2, MGS4, Halo: Reach, Ghost Recon 2, Demon's Souls, Lair, Lost Planet 2, Infamous 2, and at least half a dozen other games I can't think of that sit on my shelf at home virtually unplayed.

I've always heard AAA refer to top of the line games. Now that you mention it, that seems odd as it doesn't make too much sense.

I'm still debating on what my third game would be. Wasn't paying attention so I now have Ratchet and Dark Souls as the definites. Thinking about FIFA since everyone on campus is in love with it...then again, I can forsee having issues with roommates not leaving my system alone.

From everything I've read Rage looks good, but doesn't have much else going for it. I know Hoos returned it after just a few days.

AAA is the highest level. It usually just means "big" game. It's a high quality, big budget game. The term is used loosely as I don't think there are actually any benchmarks associated with calling a game AAA.

As for Rage....the game looks and feels great. The engine used it in outstanding. However, there is no real depth to the game. There is really no backstory to the character or anything that draws you into the game.

You basically get a gun and start missions without knowing where you are, who you are, who everybody else is, why you are doing anything. It feels very dated, especially when compared to similar games like Fallout and Borderlands.

I'm seriously considering it. I don't know crap about the strategic parts. I've been lurking the FIFA section looking at your tips lol. I may get it soon...but I'll probably take my controllers with me to work just to be on the safe side.
