yes, mizzou is a MUCH bigger get than WVU in terms of tv/media markets, which all of this is mostly about anymore anyway. Plus, the academic side like Peay said, Mizzou is well respected from that side of things also.
I have actually heard 2 scenarios, 1 easiest scheduling wise is Mizzou actually joins the SEC East. There is a map that shows the 2 setups and it isnt a huge difference travel wise for Missouri if in the East than in the West. AND it eliminates the loss of the current east/west annual rivalries, ie-bama/ut, UGA/aub etc this seems to be a sticking point that I have heard of why there is not the 9 schools already voting them in. Aub wants to go to the east and keep Bama as their annual cross division rival and keeps their Deep Souths Oldest Rivalry going w/UGA. However, this would screw up Bamas rivalry from the east of Tenn which is always a huge game each season, since aub would automatically become their annual rival.

I love seeing all this confusion and uncertainty, and God knows it's all about football in the world of sports, but I'm still just shocked that the Big East is throwing away having THE best overall basketball conference.

LOL wondered if anyone would notice that, the vandy site is off, but I wouldn't be surprised if they set it up that way. Geography be damned!

If they put Mizzou in the East then I really hope they at least make them our permanent cross over opponent. That's a rivalry waiting to happen and would be way better than us having to play SC every year.

We've only played them 5 times in our history in football but when I was growing up we played them OOC every year in basketball and there was no love lost between our two schools. Some very epic matches between Norm and Nolan. Would love to see that hatred come back again.

It seems to be consenus that it will be invites to byu louisville and west va if mizzou leaves. If not no west va.

I hate that theyre staying together. Texas and baylor didn want any former swc teams. Tcu i think is it there. Who knows texas may decide they want to add 2 30k seat stadiums. We will do whatever they want off the field tomorrow i hope we win by about 40 to give them an f u on it at least.

Despite what you or any of us think OU needs TEXAS and TEXAS needs OU to make the Big 12 work as it stands presently. But at the same time neither one of them need each other as it is just football at the end of the day.

Education wise people will still go to each school as they see fit. But as we know this is the MOST  important item on the table right...

The TEXAS/OU rivalry is more important than the TEXAS/AGS rivarly imo. but IMHO both can go their own way and all will be just fine. Even though the Ags will get their asses whooped in the SEC.. :)

Im not at all worried abOut losing the ou tx game. They played it for 80 years before they were comference mates. I dont wanna get stuck in the new big east type conference because texas doesnt care about moving aince theyre getting 300m from espn anyway.

On that note. Did you know that Texas offered this idea up to the conference for revenue sharing and they all turned it down. Or at least it was turned down

Now they all are pissed.

My insides source is telling me BYU is pretty much not being considered, they missed their chance. They will have to be happy being an independent. Though I think that might rely on big 12 staying at 10, which is what Texas seems to want, and they caved on some other issues to get that number of ten. So if Missouri leaves, they only add one school. Even if they need to add three, byu would be a longshot.

i haven't really followed this conference expansion besides the major headlines but my thoughts are simple (without getting too VVV)

There aren't many schools that have the combination of academics and athletics that UConn has. UConn is strategically located between 2 big cities (midway between Boston and NYC) and obviously owns the CT market and its a national brand.

i have no idea where they'll land but they have positioned themselves to be an asset to some conference, somewhere.

so whether they get fucked for a year or 2, eventually they'll land on their feet. if they don't than they back to dominating UMass, URI, UVermont and UMaine

I have a hard time seeing a scenario where Uconn isn’t in the ACC. Who that 16th team is might be a little more debatable but I think Uconn is the 15tth.

Why is Boise such a little part in all this? They have had a lot of success in the lower ranks so it would stand to reason that they would get interest from either the pac-12 or the Big 12. The big 12 needs schools and bsu would provide a quality program and some excitement to the idea of realignment.

I think there are several reasons. They're still viewed as an outsider due to them only moving up the FBS (or 1-A) ranks in 1996. There's probably some concern that if or when Chris Peterson leaves they could sink back to where the rest of the WAC is and become irrelevent due to their relatively moderate resources and market appeal. Boise and the Idaho/Montana/Western Washington/Western Oregon TV markets are absolutely inconsequential to everyone. And finally, only because the university presidents have to at least act like they give some semblance of a crap about academics, Boise's academic reputation is nil.

same reason every single decision has been made so far

as fans we've got to accept its not about making the conference "better" for the fans or competitive standing...its all about....

You hit it exactly. Some in Mountain West are a little worried that the one big team we have left, what if it falls apart if Chris Peterson left? They SUCK in every single other sport, all they bring to the table is a recently good football program. TCU, Utah, BYU, all have good overall and finically strong athletic programs, and aren't a one-sport school. So that's why they aren't being considered for other leagues. And yeah, Idaho's TV market isn't the biggest either.

plus, in regards to Boise-I've never been out there, but have heard that it is pretty tough place to get to as far as airport/travel, and where it is located would be a very long trip for pac-12 or big 12 teams to go especially for the non-revenue sports, cost wise.

It can't be any tougher than Pullman, Corvallis, Waco, Ames, or Manhattan.
