Everything I've read/seen on Tobacco Road is awesome.
Good thread bump. I never came back to comment, but for anyone that can shoot in the 90s or better... playing Tobacco Road needs to be added to your golf course bucket list. It was hands down the most unique and creative golf course that I've ever played. An absolutely incredible course!

i need to take lessons.

i bought a nice set of clubs, i was going to the range everyday for like a month... got to the point where i was respectable enough that i wasn't embarrassed to be on the course then i just stopped.

i want to get into the 80's range so i can enjoy myself a little bit and sneak in a great round here and there... i was playing in the mid 90's most of the time when i was going out and it drove me nuts that one hole i'd par and the next i'd quintuple bogey.

I have time, courses, weather to go but I just dont care to go by myself and need to take a couple lessons to be acceptable if I do go for work or something with vendors.

...and thats the hook for most of us

you get that birdie or par and you're like, shit, i'll just remember what i did and do that everytime.

then comes the snowman

my main goal was to get where i dont feel embarassed to play with anyone which i think im there for the most part. i can go a year without playing and pick up and shoot mid to high 90's....unless PEOPLE (no names) are making me drink..then it goes to about 120....especially people who use 6 irons instead of 9's and blast a tee shot 180 yards on a 128 yard par 3

I've been playing for 4 years. I have always had clubs, but never really got into it until the summer after I graduated high school

The club doesn't twist in your hand at all? You must have a pretty strong grip? I'm impressed.

Consistency is the name of the game.

I went out in 48 today which blew my entire day up. We got to the course 20 minutes before the tee time, figured I'd just smack 10-15 shots or so on the range to warm up, but there was actually no one on the tee so they asked us to go early to keep things rolling for the morning, so no range time.

Sometimes that is good for me, sometimes not. Today, not. 6 over on the first 3 holes, 12 over on the front total (5 doubles, 3 bogeys, 1 birdie). I was not helped by the fact that they were watering the shit out of the course and the greens the entire front.

Back was much better as I'd settled in. 5 over 41 coming home (5 bogeys, 4 pars) for an 89 total, but very disappointed in the front nine score.

That's what I noticed too. That's really impressive. I've tried to teach myself to swing like that with one arm to better my form and I just can't do it. Major props Knubb.

A good golf swing only truly needs one hand, the other one is just to steady the club (righties swing with left, lefties with right) so it's interesting to see that he can do it with one. You're right, strong grip

Playing in the district tournament this weekend and next (4 rounds, a cut after the third round). A different course each round. By far my favorite tournament of the year. Tee off at 9:39 both today and tommorrow.

Mid-week last week went out and played a little practice round with just 4 clubs and a putter. Shot 87 only carrying a 3-wood, 4-iron, 7-iron, gap wedge and putter. Not too difficult because we played at the easy muni near work, but still, its 6300ish from the middle tees so pretty happy with that going without the driver.

Then shot an 81 last Friday at DeBell in Burbank. Lowest score I've posted yet (+10 for that course). It is a bit of an odd course because there are many 280ish Par 4s, but you can't hit driver on them because they're severe doglegs. Slope is about what you're average muni is. Had 6 pars and 2 birdies (birdied the longest par 5, 447 yards, going 250 off the tee with the 3-wood and 200 from there with the 3-iron to just off green, chipped to 10 feet and sank the putt and then chipped in on a par 3 from just off the green). 8 bogeys and 2 doubles. Really it was my putting that helped my score as I had just 28 putts including just 13 on the back 9. The chip in helped, but the greens were consistent and rolled true, so I probably hit six or seven putts from 8-12 feet to really keep my score down. I actually had a three putt from 40+ feet on one hole on the back 9, so only 10 putts on the other 8 holes on the back is pretty unbelievable.

Now I need to get to the range and work on my driver. My 3-wood is really going, pretty much 235-250 straight off the tee. Used to have the driver down to a consistent 280-300, so if I can get back to that I think I'm on the verge of breaking 80.

I wish I had your swing tempo and ease of swing.

I get up there and its a homerun swing everytime or the inside out trying to hit backside swing. No matter how much I tell myself smooth swing Matt, its as fast as I can....

I will never be good at golf because it is like the complete opposite of what I have learned all my life in baseball. This is so true Matt.

81 today (again). Start out 3 over through 2, then went 3 under through the next 5 to be even through 7. Then we hit the wall of people and started waiting on every shot. Killed my momentum. Finished with 4 birdies and 5 pars, but 13 over on the other 9 holes. I've got $175 gift card for lessons that my (now ex-)girlfriend gave me last Christmas. I think it is time to get them and see if that pushes me under 80.
