I'M SO SICK OF SONY. AND THE LACK OF INFORMATION FROM THEM. THEY ARE GIVING US THE MUSHROOM TREATMENT(KEEPING US IN THE DARK AND FEEDING US SHIT!).
WE MIGHT HAVE TO GET XBOX'S TO PLAY ONLINE LINE AGAIN!! LOL ON NPR TODAY THEY SAID 85% OF ONLINE COMPANYS GET HACKED AND THE AVG COST IS 200K$. MY QUESTION IS WHEN THEY GET HACKED AGAIN HOW LONG WILL THEY BE DOWN FOR AGAIN??? THIS WHOLE THING IS BULLSHIT! I'M TIRED OF IT!

be in charge of 77 million peoples personal info and have it hacked and see how you react lol. The whole point of this is cause their system got hacked, you put the same system up its gonna get hacked again obviously, so they need to rebuild and make sure the defenses work. I dunno when you graduated from programming school to understand how long it takes to rebuild a server capable of carrying that but 3 weeks seems like a very short time imo.

You guys see lag/cry about service on a 100k server like COD, now lets think of what PSN is, 77 million, and think of all the work in all the countries.

This isn't a jab at you, just saying in general people need to chill lol.

Me too!

Nick, I am sure to rebuild their servers takes a few days at most. They have software images that they copy to their servers.
Then they have to make security tweeks and close the holes that were exposed.
But no reason to take over 3 weeks.

If something like this happened where I work, we would have every single person working 24 hours till it gets fixed.
I know they say they are working around the clock, but to me, it just feels they have the attitude of...eh..we will get to it when we get to it. These customers don't pay for our online service anyway, so they can deal with the outage.

I mean, how are you as large as Sony and get hacked and not be able to tell your customers if their information was stolen or not? They still, unless I missed something, have never confirmed if the credit card numbers were encrypted or not.
How do you not know that information?
I cannot speak for other countries, but here in America, any corporation that takes financial information, has to encrypt the information as part of Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) compliance.


And as someone else stated, their PR department needs fired.
They should be over communicating to their customers.
Tell us where they are at in the process. If they would communicate to us, most people would understand that at least they are still working on it and trying to get it done ASAP!

Communicate!
He guys, we have the servers rebuilt, we are testing them out now and testing should take 3 days.
At that time we have blah blah blah to do...
Instead, they really tell us nothing.

this is the 4th weekend down, a company this size should not take this long to get their service back up. I am positive a companies like Walmart.com, Amazon, etc... have faced serious threats such as these in the past and have never been down the time Sony has Nick. Also, communication is also key with your consumers as well and not just vague information and misinformation which sony has done since day 1 with us. They have stated multiple dates with "expected" completion and even went as far as saying it would be up during the week of may 1st, all of which have not happened.

At this point, I wonder if we will see PSN 2.0. The rebuilding of the network from the ground up does allow Sony to implement things that weren't possible on the old network. Not only the network but it would be a good time to update the interface.

A new look and new features could certainly add to the current delay.

ugh fuck it, the moment you argue against a commish people just file in like drones to agree without even doing research. I can't even find how many people are roughly working on the server, and you guys know how long it should take lol..

Forgot this league is filled with programming majors, my bad, i'll consult with you guys going forward when I try to impliment C++ and Visual Basic and all that fun shit.

No shit, thats my point. I have zero faith in Sony because they have never given us anything throughout this situation to cause me to believe that they will be adding features. There are many things that are very frustrating about all this but the lack of communication and press releases have been the thing that is not acceptable. As a company that services millions of people, you have to constantly communicate what is going on and give realistic timelines on when you feel that the problems can be addressed. I personally think they knew from very early on how bad this shit was and did not want to tell consumers that it may be a 6 week project. String folks along as to not cause a mass departure to xbox.
