New TV Needed

Post by Downing11 »

To make a long story short, my 46" Samsung DLP has a color wheel problem, plus the lamp is going and the cost to fix doesn't make sense so I am now in the market for a new TV. 46" is perfect for my room and I am not shelling out the cash for an LED.

I found a nice deal on an 47" LG LCD, 240hz at Best Buy for $1,199 plus that comes with interest free financing for 3 years. A few questions for you guys in the know:

1. I have never owned an LG product, how are they?
2. Obviously I will notice the difference between 60, 120 and 240 Hz when they are side by side, but do I really need to buy a 240? The same TV with 120 Hz is $999.

Thanks guys in advance for your help.

I went with the 47" toshiba clearview 240, its a 120hz but there is something in it that makes it refresh near 240hz. I absolutely love the tv. One downside for some is that the screen is a gloss finish but my tv doesn't have a window in line with it so I don't have the issue of it reflecting images from outside on it. I paid $1199 for it on black friday and it may be cheaper now at bestbuy. I watched this tv side-by-side with a 240hz tv and you really couldn't tell the difference.

LG rocks. BestBuy blows. Buy everything from Amazon or Newegg.

Look at this deal: http://www.amazon.com/LG-55LH40-55-Inch ... 351&sr=1-8

Cost $1,500 at BB

George, your TV uses some kind of backlight scanning to double the refresh rate and, according to several forum posts and articles I've read, it works just as well.

Will the 240Hz make a huge difference over the 120? It is only $200 diffence so I'll probably go with the 240, just wondeirng. Also, I found the LG 47" 240hz LCD for $1,199 on Amazon and Best Buy. Model LH4755

So i get to save $100, but have to wait for how long for the free shipping to get here? I'm sure it isn't next day. Amazon is a favorite place of mine, but they have much better deals than the one you posted.

Also, unless things have changed, Newegg does not allow returns on televisions purchased with them. They are still great for those looking to build a computer, though.

Also, unless there is uncontrolled lighting in your room, go plasma.

I got talked out of plasmas because the room I am putting the TV has a ton of windows and I was told the plasmas pick up glare more so than LCDs.

I went this one: http://www.samsung.com/us/consumer/tv-v ... returnurl=

I didn't pay $1899 for it. I was going to go with the 640 model because I don't need the internet connectivity, but it was on back order, so I said eff it.

I'll be hooking it up today, cant' wait.
