yeah, this is pretty common in european soccer. You get kids who show talent young (and although 7 is young, its not unheard of) and the bring them up through the youth academy. These kids live and breathe soccer for their youths and a select few will make a living out of it.

It is ruthless though, if you aren't up to par at any given point they can drop you.

They have actually started doing this in the US as well.

Which will be a HUGE step forward for us as a nation in this sport. We are the only nation in the world where our top soccer players have to PAY to continue to develop (traveling teams, academies, etc), and this was a major thing Klinnsman talked about last year during the WC coverage. Now that he's in charge, I'm hoping this practice ends and we start actually doing like we do in all our other major sports--giving these talented kids scholarships to help them develop.

We may see more of those top-notch athletes stick with soccer instead of going to less costly sports like football/basketball, and thus put out some better talented wingers/forwards who have great on-ball skills.

Its Klinsmann time on ESPNnews right now. The game is moving back to ESPN2 after the little league game is over.

The lingo honestly has just infused itself into my vocabulary from talking to other football fans, talking on boards, watching so much soccer, etc.

Really upset that the matches are most likely going to be called off this weekend because of the riots....been looking forward to the start of the BPL all summer! Oh well, gives me more time to set up my fantasy team.

I really really REALLY like Torres playing as a CF and NOT as an outside midfielder.

Goal USA! I like Brek Shea. I think he could be a real player sometime down the road, but goddamn that hair's got to go.

I think Mexico could stab a guy in the box and not have a penalty awarded to us.

That was an obvious clip.

That just proved my previous post.

Absolutely HORRID officiating. He pulled him down on a fucking breakaway. One of the worst calls I've ever seen.

Wow! Did he have to remove Rogers' shirt for it to be a red?

I had no doubt in my mind that there was going to be red card shown.

This is why hockey is great. If someone yanked someone down on a breakaway and no penalty was called, he would almost assuredly get punched in the face on his next shift
