NDL Fantasy Keeper League, 2010 Season

Post by NCSUholmey »

After talking to most of the coaches in the league, even the ones with the most to lose as far as keepers go, most have agreed to start fresh with the active group that we have with a set of keeper rules to move forward with. The problem we had with moving forward with keepers from the dynasty rosters is how to value keepers for future drafts. The rules below will reward good drafting and waiver wire pickups, but will also allow for year to year competitiveness for all coaches involved. I have the list of coaches as well as the proposed rules below. If anyone has anything that they want to add to the rules, or feel needs changing, let me know and we can alter what is below.

Vegas Storm - mtwasik
Victorious Secret - LGF

Hillsboro Redskins - berokoff

Keeper Rules

ORIGINAL RULES PAGE

1. Each team can keep from 0-3 players from their previous end-of-season roster – Depending on what players are left on your team at the end of the previous season, you may wish to “keep” none of your players.

2. Players drafted in the first 3 rounds of a draft can not be kept in the following season – This prevents the top tier of players from being kept and creating massively unfair teams. Due to rule 4 below, the first 2 rounds technically couldn’t be kept anyways.

3. A Player can only be kept a maximum of 3 consecutive times – This rule is there just to keep things interesting.

4. For each player that is kept (and was originally drafted by a team), that manager must give up a draft pick 2 picks higher than where the player was initially drafted the year before – This ensures that players that improve in talent each season are accounted for. If Frank Gore was drafted in the 13th round last year, you probably don’t want him counting for a teams 13th pick for the next 3 years. Once a player that was drafted hits the waiver wire, that player still holds the previous seasons draft spot for future keeper picks. This is to prevent teams from picking up IR guys off the waiver wire at the end of the season to use as an undrafted free agent keeper - See Tom Brady 2008
Example: Wide receiver Brandon Marshall was drafted in the 11th round last year. If kept, this year he would account for the teams 9th round pick. If kept again, the following year he would be considered the 7th round pick.
5. Any player that went undrafted the previous year, but is being kept, will count as a team’s 3rd to last draft pick – This rule is there to slightly reward good drafting, as keeping free agent pickups are a little pricier than last round draft picks.
Example: Marques Colston was picked up off free agency last season by a team. If the league has 15 rounds in its draft, and the manager wishes to keep Colston, he must give up his 12th round pick the following season (as opposed to a player drafted in the 15th round, who would only count for the 13th pick).
6. If you do not have a draft pick for a round to give up to keep a player, you must give up the next higher pick – This might happen if you trade away a draft pick during preseason or have 2 keepers that have the same draft status from the previous year. One tip to consider if you have 2 players vying for the same draft spot is to make sure the player most likely to be kept the next year is taken with the higher pick. This makes his keeper “price” cheaper for the next draft.
Example: You wish to keep two free agents that you picked up during last season. Because both of them would qualify for your 12th pick (in a 15 round draft), one must count as the 12th pick, but the other will have to be your 11th pick.
7. Draft to be Random Order Snake Draft – With all the first 3 round guys from the year before back available, top talent will be available for all to pick from. This will also prevent last place team from tanking the season to get a good draft spot. Yahoo will determine the order by the random generator they do before drafts.

8 (Optional). If your league wants to, you can trade picks in the draft before the draft begins (or even during the draft if your commissioner allows it) – This would allow you to trade a combination of players/picks to another manager to address certain team needs you might have.

Rosters
Roster to include the following:
QB, WR, WR, WR, RB, RB, TE, W/R/T, K, DEF
6 Bench Players
1 Injured Reserve - if necessary
The injured reserve spot will allow you to store one player, likely someone that you do not want to drop due to them being a keeper the following year.

Yearly Draft
Each year, we will have a 15 round draft, following the keeper rules listed above. We will try to have the draft as close to the start of the season as possible, to allow for NFL Depth Charts to be close to final, and any injuries should be known for the upcoming season. I will ask for all Keepers to be sent in a week before the draft, that way we can post a list of the keepers for people that cant make the draft to set their rankings. NEED LEAGUE INPUT. DO YOU WANT TO KEEP HAVING RANDOM ORDER SNAKE DRAFT, OR SHOULD WE DO FIRST ROUND AS A WORST TO FIRST ORDER, THEN SNAKE FROM THERE ON FUTURE ROUNDS

does anyone oppose moving the draft by 1 hour to 9est?

I think we will still be done by 1030, so thats not too bad of a push. Let me know, and if I dont see anything by tomorrow, I will try to make the switch

Each time that I have gone in to change the draft, I can only put it at 6 or 10, which will not work for a majority of the owners. Anyone that can not make the initial draft, make sure to rank your players in the pre-draft rankings list. If you can show up at a point during the draft, yahoo will let you jump into the live draft and pick up where it is

remember that all players are on Waivers until Tuesday, then all waiver claims will be processed in a rolling order as shown on the league homepage. Looks like Week 1 will be reverse order of Draft, then from here on should do a worst to first based on league settings.

First Round of Playoffs are done, and we are down to our final four.

As a reminder to everyone, this is a keeper league, and you will get to keep up to 3 players off your team based on our keeper structure.

View the rules here:
viewtopic.php?f=85&t=15760

Once the Championship round starts, I will lock all rosters and you will not be able to add players over the offseason. The draft round for each player is shown in our Yahoo league section, so you can determine if your keepers. We will likely have the next live draft with keepers as close to kickoff to next season as possible.

I just went in and locked the rosters since our season has completed.

When the time comes to sign up again for next season, I will post rosters / etc for the upcoming season.

Any player may be kept 2 rounds earlier than where they were drafted at the start of the 2010 season. If a different coach drafted that player, the draft round still stands on that player. You will not have to have your keeper picks in until right before the draft, so do not worry about getting those in until the time comes

those will be sent in at the same time:

5. Any player that went undrafted the previous year, but is being kept, will count as a team’s 3rd to last draft pick – This rule is there to slightly reward good drafting, as keeping free agent pickups are a little pricier than last round draft picks.
