OracleHCR has signed on for a second year as the coach of the North Carolina Tar Heels after a moderately successfuly first year. The Heels finished season 22 with a record of 9-4 after a victory over the Notre Dame Fighting Irish in the Champs Sports Bowl. In 3 of the teams 4 losses, UNC lost by a touchdown or less and 2 of the games were lost in the final seconds of regulation. TCU returned a kickoff to win one game and Miami kicked a game winner as time expired. In both games the Tar Heels had battled back to tie it up only to have their hearts broken by big plays.
The team looks to rely on the running of HB AJ Blue again this season. He had over 1,000 yards on the ground in season 22 and had 15 touchdowns.
QB Bryn Renner looks to have a better season after a sporadic season last go around. He had more interceptions than TD passes and had a tendency to miss wide open recievers.
Defensively the Tar Heels will look to DT Quentin Coples and Matt Merletti. Coples had 11 sacks last season and Merletti had 11 picks. Both players excelled at their positions and hope to have great follow up seasons.
This year the Tar Heels hope to contend for a division title after tying for 3rd in the conference in season 22. We will have to see if OracleHCR can get them over the hump.
