Reign's Rankings: Preseason Edition
Posted: Tue Oct 20, 2009 10:00 am
My free time should allow for this to be a bi-weekly piece that launches while the polls are running. I hope you enjoy the Preseason Edition!
1.) USC - shel311
After being 1 upset away from the title game, Shel is ready to lead the talented Trojans to the promised land.
2.) Penn State - Steamrollr22
Last season Tennessee left it all on the field, but came up short in a few very close games, against the best in the country. This season, Steamrollr has a team that can close it out. USC gets the early nod based on player talent, PSU is my pick to win it all!
3.) Florida - Nole4real
"The Return of Nole" or "Nole4Sellout?" Either way you slice it, Nole makes a push for the title. I see the SEC schedule taking it's toll.
4.) Georgia - Ank
Always the bridesmaid, never the bride, as Ank's Bulldog's may fall 1 game short.
5.) Texas - bigred
Texas has the experience of the Big 12 showdowns, bigred should use that to his advantage to secure a spot as the top school in the conference.
6.) LSU - Doodee
While the SEC East gets the hype, Doodee and the Tigers will try to play spoiler from the West.
7.) Georgia Tech - VTrunNgun
The ACC is stacked and possibly the hardest conference to handicap. I look for the consistency of the Flexbone to grind out an ACC title.
8.) West Virginia - LytezOut
Sleeper alert. After running through the MAC last season, LytezOut brings his show to the extremely talented Moutaineers. Can he hold off the 2 Big East stalwarts? I think so.
9.) Oklahoma - nick_wadden_
It'll be put up for shut up (many hope for shut up… at least in the literal term) when it's time for the Red River Rivalry. If Nick pulls off the W, he'll catapult into title talks.
10.) Alabama - Bama Fan in Vol Land
It'll be another good year in Bama-Land. But a #10 ranking is only good enough to be the 4th best SEC squad.
11.) Miami (FL) - walker213
If the Ramblin' Wreck consistency becomes inconsistent, look for the Hurricanes to storm to the top of the conference.
12.) Illinois - Talented1
The coach is Talented, the team is not. Just imagine what would happen if this coach were at a better program.
13.) Florida State - Daw1git
This seems like a punk ranking for the Noles, but 1 huge win against Miami and they go from in ACC Championship talk to in the National Title hunt.
14.) Boise State - Hoos
It'll all come down to their non-con schedule and a matchup with 1 great addition to the conference. If the Broncos go unscathed in their OOC, we might be on spoiler alert.
15.) Nebraska - sammy33
It's up to the Huskers to defend the North and hold off the new kid on the block in Missouri. As for Big 12 hopes, the title game is likely, but the South is just awesome.
16.) Wisconsin - outlaw69
A quality pairing of coaching style and team talent. Wisconsin is going to do some damage.
17.) Missouri - BIGmike
From National Champ to coaching the Bad News Bears. Another undefeated season is unlikely for BigMike, but at least his team will look good in those uniforms.
18.) Oklahoma State - texasfan4444
The Big 12 South is loaded with excellent teams and coaches, OSU didn't do themselves many favors with their harsh OOC schedule.
19.) Washington - ukwildcatfan17
The only holdover from the PAC 10 should quietly over achieve with his team and have another solid season.
20.) Ohio State - pounddarock
Is pound ready for the rigors of the Big 10? I think they are 1 year away. The learning curve against the Big 10 coaches might be too much to overcome this year.
21.) Houston - RanDawg
Controversy or not when it comes to the offense, the end result is huge numbers and Ws. If Houston avoids the let down, the final result could be special.
22.) Texas Christian - Mtwasik
In a year in which the big boys are going to beat themselves up, TCU is ripe for BCS-Buster status.
23.) California - 6ftdeep
6ft's season points to 1 game. It'll be win or go home when they matchup against the Trojans.
24.) Virginia Tech - Crowes
The old saying is completely opposite when it comes to the Hokies. Defense wins games in Blacksburg, Offense will have to try to win the ACC Championship.
25.) Cincinnati - UCWeiser
Cincinnati will look to exercise the demon that is newcomer LytezOut. If they are up for the task, a showdown with USF could determine the Big East champ.
Honorable Mention:
Mississippi - Cnasty
Clemson - VeniVediV1ci
Maryland - Dealer4014
Kansas State - Black Rain
South Florida - mcx79
Akron - drezplace
Utah - thedonkeysho
Oregon - cunit879
Arizona State - wildes12
Tennessee - MWard86
